We came up on a narrow boat so this place is perfectly situated. You need to walk a short way from the main canal down a side canal which seems more residential. At the very end is this cafe, lots of space inside and out so well worth risking the short hike. Very good value for money and great food, not a long wait either. You go to the counter to order, give them your table number and pay, then a short wait and they home out and shout numbers, soon one if them us yours. It's such a lot of shouting of numbers many people tuned out and the shouting became more insistant! It's hard to have a relaxing meal with numbers constantly being yelled, did slightly spoil the relaxed atmosphere and quiet location! Not the staffs fault, it's the system and I guess it's the best way they have found. The staff did look and sound a little impatient, I don't blame them people just tuned out and missed the yell, but that's the only mild irritation I had, everything else was good. Seating was by the canal so care needed to be taken with small children, but also plenty inside. Toilets inside, I didn't use them but those who did said they were okay. If I was in the area I would return as it was good food and a...
Read moreFor context - we'd spent the weekend in Bath, enjoyed some lovely breakfasts at fair prices. This was a canal walk and a stop for breakfast before a journey home. The Angelfish is in a great location, at a canal junction just off the main flow...this though is where the positives end! So, so overpriced, it's untrue! I overlooked the full English as its at least £2 dearer than I'd paid in the City centre and instead went for a bacon sandwich. The bacon or sausage sandwich is £8! For this, I was expecting the best I'd ever tasted but it was closer to the opposite. Overdone cardboard bacon, no sauce offered, it wasn't even buttered!! Total bill £22 for 2 bacon sandwiches and 2 x lattes. There was no saving grace with the coffee either...it was basically foamed milk. Tasted of nothing, small mug and poorly made. If I hadn't have paid up front, I would have refused to. Absolutely awful. They get away with this standard as once there, you've got no alternative really. It'd mean walking back to the car or back to the city to find somewhere else. Complacent, exploitative, greedy, lazy and unfair to the paying public. Find somewhere else....
Read moreI was walking along the Kennet and Avon Canal from Bradford on Avon to Bath, enjoying the spring sunshine. When I came across this delightful cafe at Monckton Combe, I had a lovely wedge of coffee and walnut cake, with a cup of my favourite chai latte tea, which was equally good The whole stretch of my walk along the canal was absolutely fantastic seeing all the narrow boats or barges, whichever is the correct definition The railway line to Bath is adjacent to the canal Being largely rural, always ensure that you are physically capable. There are not many exits off the path But if you are excited to experience this wonderful Also, enjoy the Tythe Barn in...
