Stopped here for Sunday lunch whilst riding the Two Tunnels Greenway route from Bath.  This pub is about halfway round so an ideal stop for refreshments and food. We sat out in the garden area which has plenty of benches, tables and chairs split over a couple of areas plus shade on a hot day.  I had the roast beef, which was delicious and a very good size portion. The menu was limited as it was Sunday lunchtime and the focus is on traditional roasts although our youngest had a very good sized kids portion of battered fish and chips. A very nice pub in a quiet country village that serves lovely food.

First impressions were good, nice looking clean old style Inn. Checked in and shown to my room, nice sized room simply styled but with everything you could need. Lovely outside seating areas one of which i had dinner in. The menu was great not to big but varied and just a bit different, food and service was spot on. Harry the manager was friendly, polite, funny and very competent. All in all a great place and both the room and food were good value for money.

Fantastic pub under new ownership. The new team are offering up seasonal pub classics, freshly made pizzas and hearty Sunday roasts. Even for a Sunday menu, there was something for everyone including fish and chips, and pizza. I cannot comment on the rooms as I did not stay overnight but, based on the rest of the pub, I can imagine they are lovely and welcoming Follow me on Instagram for more food reviews: @hungry_hesketh

The staff member we spoke to was very friendly and attentive. However the food was atrocious and inedible. We had a chicken and mushroom pie and it tasted awful, the quality of the meat also seemed really poor. The mashed potato was gritty and tasted almost like instant mash. We only ate a couple of forkfuls before having to leave it. I had a smash burger which tasted ok but was pink on the inside so I was pretty worried after eating it in case I got food poisoning. The FDA says burgers should never be pink inside and you risk gastroenteritis eating one. We were the only people in the pud so there was no excuse about it being a rush in the kitchen. We did tell the staff member about the pie meal and he did remove it from the bill but we would have expected that as it wasn't eaten. The car park is right round the back of the pub down a drive and is completely unlit which is unacceptable especially for elderly and disabled people, it's dangerous. The only reason I gave it to stars instead of one was due to the friendly and attentive staff member.

Update after comments from Pub The pie was tried by both of us and both us found it horrible. Your mashed potato DID have a gritty unpleasant texture and also wasn't eaten. The burger did taste good, I don't dispute that, however it was pink inside and after going home thinking back on the pinkness I was worried and read what the FDA has to say about pink burgers. There is no lighting on the car park at all, and when walking up and down from the car park there was hardly any lights. Also we only spoke to ONE staff member about the food, not the two you claim. You claim my comments are unfair but I also see from other reviews that others feel the same about meals they've had at your establishment. Maybe you were having an off night, maybe you weren't, it doesn't diminish...

We ate Sunday lunch here recently having previously eaten at the pub some years before. We had booked ahead and arrived exactly on time, but on our arrival, we had to wait around for about ten minutes as our table was not quite ready, so we ordered drinks and stood and waited by the bar.

Once we were seated at our table with our drinks, we chose and ordered our food and asked for a jug of water, which did not arrive until the second time of asking. Our food was served promptly and was well presented, but sadly it was only just warm. There was lashings of gravy over our roast lamb which rather overwhelmed everything on the plate and the Yorkshire pudding was sadly cold and soggy.

Despite mint sauce being on the menu, we sadly had none on our plate, but once we had asked for it twice, it did arrive just as we were coming to towards the end of our meal. The small plate of vegetables we shared between the four of us gave us about four sticks of carrot each, one teaspoon of red cabbage and a morsel of cabbage,

The saving grace of the whole meal was that the lamb was extremely delicious and so was the piece of gluten free chocolate cake we shared with our tea and coffee and even though it was a busy Sunday lunchtime and the staff were busy, they remained...

I AM A 58 year old retired hotel manager. ... My parents in their 80's came over from Ireland and insisted on treating me to a fantastic dinner at the Wheelwright Arms. We were expecting a lovely menu and a good meal which they wanted to share as we'd not caught up for 5 years! ... I digress ...unfortunately we had neither of those things ... the staff themselves were very good, I'd hire them, but again unfortunately the menu was very light and over priced. ... my father and I ordered fish and chips (£18.50 ea!), my step mother ordered mussels which were fantastic, I recommend. ... But unfortunately the fish and chips were: Double battered Small in quantity Fish so hot we waited nearly 10mins before it was eadable Fish obviously double fried, or maybe bought from the chippy up the road then fried..dunno £5.50 up in Combe Down!

Anyway all round a complete let down on a beautiful summers day. My father did mention it to the young girl serving once we'd eaten what we could and paid the £61.50 bill politely. I myself have not forgotten and I would appreciate a refund or discount at least. My bank numbers are - M S LEWIS , 20-05-06 93691306. Please reimburse me and I may continue to recommend your lovely establishment. With kind...
