Went to The Barn Owl for dinner with my two teenagers (who have hollow legs) for the first time this evening and had a really lovely meal. We had the Lasagne, a Cheeseburger and the Chicken and Sweetcorn BBQ pizza, along with some cheesy chips. My 16yo son refused a 2nd slice of my pizza as he was so full! We all really enjoyed the food. Of course the kids then had room for a pudding and had a Sundae and Sticky Toffee pudding, both very tasty. Service was excellent and the staff all made us feel very welcome. A half term treat but we will be back. Definitely recommend.

Went here for lunch on Sunday 16th July after a previous visit where I had noticed how amazing the food looked! Both myself and my friend had the Sunday roast and I have to say, it was one of the best roast dinners I have ever had (and I've had a fair few! 😂) Despite my best efforts, I was too full to finish it off but I had eaten a starter and my friend had a dessert, both of which were delicious 😋 A lovely pub with a great, chilled atmosphere and I'm sure I'll be going back again very soon.

Dear sirs, madam! This morning I booked a table for two people that is a small hut on the side of the canal to have Sunday lunch at 3,30pm Sunday 21st August.

We arrived in time and searched the little huts by the side of the canal where there was only one free with sign “reserved” so we realized that is our table and sat down to order our lunch.

The table had reserved label on and as there was no other little huts available or with reserved label, I presumed that this was ours,as no other instruction had been given to us when booking.

While sat there for ten mins at least three staff walked passed us said nothing until I approached the next one and asked to order Two ciders, they looked at me in dismay and said you will have to text on phone or could be serve by staff, so we agreed to be served by staff service and same time ask bring to us food menu.

After that we been waiting for on other 25-30 minutes. As I did not have a phone I approached another staff and asked for the same but nothing had happened so I decided to go to the bar and purchase them which I did, my tab was on the side section with no other customers at the bar but 5 staff talking doing nothing at all I instructed them that the tab on the bar was mine and I will pay for the drinks now. Which I did.

The staff were running around chasing each other doing nothing ,there was no purpose of business and were totally clueless and ignored us.

So we ask again for the food menu and take our order,, same time oldest woman came to us and ask if we booked the table, we said YES, we did and over 30 minutes waiting for any service, but that oldest woman started shouting to us and ask us leave as the table has been booked by someone els.

We were trying explain it’s not our fault but she wouldn’t listen and ask us move to another table or go away. At that moment another two waitresses came and started laughing which we thought that was highest disrespect to us as we didn’t do anything wrong.

The oldest woman was extremely rude and arrogant. So we had to go with huge regret we decided to have meal in the place where staff treats customers with manners.

We have see reviews on your website, it’s not just us that have been treated so badly by staff.

How can you run a business like this I will never know ! Then after I had taken the drinks to the table ;I woman came out and wanted to charge me again for the drinks, when I told her I have paid, she ask me for proof which I did and never apologized.

This is now madness!

Then another older woman came to us and said you will have to move, why I said .? You are in the other unit ,well how did I know this,,I said ,,, we were more than ready to order and had 50 % of our drinks now this woman wanted to pitch us out.

She was rude ,shouting , and a huge scene in front of all the people She was insulting to my wife and aggressive,at one stage outsiders were coming out shouting.

We did drink up and move on the the wheat chief pub ,I will never come to this disgusting aggressive place again in my entire life even if the food was free,I will also inform my friends of this disrespectful place with such a arrogant staff.

Who answers the phone has to give Ckear instruction The customer is always right Be polite Never walk past an empty table ask,,can I help introduce yourself eg my name is xxx can I help you never shout at customers they pay your BILLS

Your staff had no idea what they were doing, running around like headless chickens , too many staff, talking joking waist of money,no direction, your money and name being trashed, look at your reviews

Any business is not a charity

By now almost half an hour has passed and I had lost my...

The Barn Owl Inn is nice and cosy the lady who welcomed us when we arrived was pleasant the table we sat at was near the bar the older gentleman came and closed the curtains as it was very cold outside we sat near the tv on the wall we had a short wait for the older lady to take our order we ordered 2 caverys one with gluten free gravy and two soft drinks they had no tomato juices in stock we had to wait a while for the drinks to arrive we were served by a young man who seemed not to be very experienced in serving people we the meals were brought to our tables by a young girl she banged the plates down in front of us asked who wanted the gluten gravy one I said it was mine so she gave it to my partner and I was given the other one she then walked off we were given no cutlery napkins or sauces we kept trying to catch her attention but she didn't notice us we eventually caught the attention of the older bar man and said we had no cutlery he had a word with the young male waiter after another wait the lad appeared with the cutlery and napkins he didn't bring any condiments and went of again I started to eat my meal which was by this time going a little cold I asked him for mustard which he brought again after a few minutes the Turkey was nice and tasty but my beef was very gristle and hard to cut through we were not given steak knives and I wasnt given a yorkshire pudding after we finished are meal we asked the young lad if we could order two puddings we had to ask to see the menu we picked two sherry trifles they were very tasty after we finished them when we ordered them I asked the young man if the trifles where included in the pensioners meals he said yes I asked the older lady for the bill she came back with three Bill's then the young lad came with the card machine which I paid we left the inn it was terribly windy and not a pleasant night we got in the car and drove home. The next day I looked at the Bill's and was surprised as the trifles were six pounds each I checked the website they were that price when l booked the meal over the phone I asked if they did the pensioners meals on the sunday and she said yes I think £12.00 for two trifles is a little steep I think the two younger members of staff need more training we would like to visit again in the better weather and bring some family but I hope that the young staff are abit more on the mark and the menus and pricing is clearer it's very confusing the pub is spotlessly clean and bright could do with a better sign if coming from lymm roundabout as it hard to spot in the dark coming from Altrincham direction we...

On arrival, the only welcome was nothing other than waiting for us to announce we had a table reserved and then we had 4 menus thrust into our hands with the hostess pointing out a table over the other side of what appears to be a regimented and poorly laid out cafe/cafeteria. Having made an online booking, the hostess decided to be over familiar in confirming the booking name and used first names which she was never invited to do. Drinks order took 10 minutes to be taken and there was a much longer wait for food order to be taken. Then we received knives, forks and serviettes in a wooden box literally banged down on the table with no comment from a very grumpy looking waitress. Waiting time for food service was barely acceptable and the 2 vegan main courses were served long after the 2 meat dishes so not a comfortable start to the lunch for our party of 4. The vegan and vegetarian section of the main course menu was limited to four choices and the menu did not specify which meal was vegan or vegetarian. There was very little or no choice for non meat eaters on the rest of the menu including the Seniors menu and sandwiches. Our vegan friends later reported that they were not impressed with their meal. (It was the curry and certainly looked very bland and uninteresting and a very small portion - they had a snack when they got home!)

The view of the canal is pleasant but, overall, the dining experience was woeful. We will not be returning after such a disappointing visit for what was supposed to be a treat to celebrate...
