5 Stars The Bird in Hand, Chester – A Hidden Gem! I recently visited The Bird in Hand in Chester and had an absolutely fantastic experience. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of character. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and made us feel right at home. The food was outstanding – hearty, delicious, and clearly made with care. Every dish was full of flavor, beautifully presented, and generously portioned. Whether you’re popping in for a casual drink or sitting down for a full meal, the quality is consistent and impressive. The pub itself is charming with a great mix of traditional features and a relaxed vibe. It’s the perfect place for a cosy evening with friends, family gatherings, or even a quiet pint by yourself. I can’t recommend The Bird in Hand highly enough — it’s a true credit to Chester’s pub scene. I’ll definitely be back soon!

After living in the village for years, first time going back to the pub since renovation and what an amazing renovation they have done. The food was also amazing, very friendly attentive staff and busy for a random Thursday night which is also a good sign! I had the pie of the day which was delicious home made and generous portions. Other members of our party had the fish special which was presented amazingly and also got great feedback, and finally the chicken burger which was also very tasty. Dog friendly too.

Wow, we had some of the best steaks we’ve ever eaten and really personable service by the manager and front of house. I wish all businesses had this approach. He took the time to talk to my family and he really showed he cares about who visits. We could hear him doing the same with everyone who came. 🥰 The waitress was also lovely and let us adapt the menu slightly for our child who didn’t like squid 🦑and swap it for fish. We will definitely go back. The Thursday night steak offer was a win win for us too!

What a hidden little gem you are!

We have visited from Yorkshire and Trip Advisor lead us to you.

Firstly I have to mention the staff who are so friendly and amazing. As soon as we walked in we were greeted with a smile. The gentleman that served us actually conversed with us and made us feel very welcome. The waitress who couldn’t do enough for us and checked in on us regularly.

The food was amazing. We had cod bites starter to share and the batter was so light and not too thick so you could taste the cod ❤️ I had the buttermilk chicken for the main and that was cooked to perfection. The homemade coleslaw is the best coleslaw I’ve ever tasted (must be a secret recipe 😂) My partner had the lamb and guineas pie and I wish I’d of taken a photo now because the pie just didn’t look nice with the puff pastry on the top but tasted absolutely amazing.

Great location, lovely outdoor space and just a great place, with amazing staff. Not only that but the locals made us feel so welcome, we felt like we were locals.

There is no wonder that this little hidden gem is no.1 on trip advisor!

Thank you everyone for making my day by giving me a pleasant experience, it was just what we needed after an unpleasant stay at a...

This is a proper food-driven pub which any village would be proud of. Lucky Guilden Sutton. Had an early dinner last night, we arrived just before 6:00. The bars were buzzing and the heated covered deck area at the rear was already pretty full with families eating. It’s a very welcoming pub, run by Stavros aided by some excellent young members of staff. Sorry, I’m rabbiting on but I’m getting to the point, the food. Absolutely brilliant! We had some big garlic prawns and some katsu chicken to start. Followed by a delicious short rib of beef, which just melted in my mouth… but the gravy (or probably sauce) was fabulous, served with crispy potatoes and veg etc. We also had a really good cod and chips ( I was allowed a mouthful). As it was early on Alex the chef came out to ask us how we enjoyed the meal, I hope I wasn’t too gushing, probably was but he deserved it. I don’t do many reviews and I only do them when I particularly like somewhere. The Bird is absolutely brilliant, if you haven’t been yet, get down there. I’m away for a few weeks but as soon as I’m back, it’s a Sunday lunch for me even though I live over...

Visited a few weeks back with my girlfriend, us both being from the Midlands.

Quite noticeably we were out-of-towners, and everyone there looked at us as if we were from outer space and not made to feel welcome at all. Bar staff stared at us for about ten minutes before asking what we wanted, we had a table booked but were told it wasn't ready. Then the girl behind the bar kept trying to usher us up to this weird place called the loft or something along those lines. We had no idea what that was, but didn't really sound too appealing. Instead we took a seat in the main bar and were asked if we were sat there because somebody else was in the loft. Made it sound like some sort of dungeon. We were then hassled to buy a drink even though we said we needed a minute, all the while still being stared at as if we were aliens

We bought a drink, couldn't stomach to finish it, so snuck out the side door to eat with the other aliens at the Toby carvery. Never called to let us know the table was ready, so could still be sat up in the loft/dungeon to this day and no...
