While in London, we got to check out an awesome, award-winning local pub about 30 minutes outside London. The inside was so lovely, cute, inviting, with a good amount of seating. They have a fully stocked bar at the entrance, offering all sorts of beer and wine, sure to find something that fits your taste buds. The restaurant created a kind of ā€œsampleā€ platter to share, with cheesy scones, cheese, and sausages. They were all so very tasty! Nice beginning to our dinner feast… For appetizer, we had King Scallops & Venison, and Scallops Gruyere Gratinated with Panko Crumb, Dunkin Toast, and Fresh Lemon. Both of them were so amazingly delicious! For main, I chose 6oz Fillet Steak, Scallop, White Crab & Tiger Prawn Gratin. It was just amazing and delicious! the steak was pure perfection! The sauce and jus was awesome! My hubby went with Banham’s Chicken Breast, Gruyere Truffle Mac ā€˜n’ Cheese. It came with generous amount of chicken, soft and tender. Very filling and satisfying! We were all quite full, but that didn’t stop us from getting deserts…we had Sticky Sticky Pudding, and Rhubarb & Custard. It was one of the best sticky puddings I’ve ever tasted! We had an amazing dinner, everything was exquisite! We enjoyed every bite of every dish. The service was very polite, friendly and accommodating. No wonder they received many awards!

We booked a table here on a friend's recommendation. We were not disappointed. The place is beautiful and clean! From the moment we walked in until the moment we left we were taken care of and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The outdoor area is just gorgeous with plenty of seating...a real plus with the lovely summer we are having this year. We were seated in the conservatory which was lovely and airy. We loved the big jars everywhere with the fairy lights in. This all created a wonderful atmosphere and although the place was really busy with not an empty table in sight we felt like the only customers in there. Now onto the food....it was absolutely delicious! There was plenty of choice and I believe that every taste was catered for. From the intros and starters to the desserts the choice was awesome. We had venison meatballs with chorizo, breads eith oil and vinegar, burgers, fish and chips, mussels, braised beef, sticky sticky pudding (sticky toffee pudding) perfecoroles ( Ithink thats how thry spelled it - basically profiteroles), rhubarb panna cotta to name a few dishes! Highly recommend this place! Book.in advance though they get really busy!

I love historic buildings, and this place has made the most of using lots of the old features. It was warm outside but we ate inside in the conservatory and had beautiful views of the garden. We didn’t book because it was a last minute day out, but the staff were very welcoming and found us a table. It did get busy, and I could see that they probably needed an extra person on the floor, but the way they managed the demands of all the guests, getting food out to tables, and remaining calm and friendly was highly impressive. The food was lovely, and there was a good range of gluten free options. We ate from the set menu, and due to some food intolerances they also let us swap one of the deserts. It might seem an odd thing to mention, but the chips were delicious. Definitely at the top of our chips chart! Will come back to try more things.

We had a truly disappointing visit to the Bladebone this evening for my husband’s birthday.

I ordered the pork belly and the dish was so bad that I had to send it back, and I don’t usually complain. There was no texture to any of the food and the pork was extremely salty and looked and tasted as if it had been boiled. The dauphinoise potatoes could have used some of the salt from the pork as it was completely tasteless and rather than rich, creamy slices, it was just a lump of boiled potato. Everything on the plate was wrong in some way and had obviously been cooked with no care. And maybe the chef needs to eat good pork belly somewhere else and be introduced to crackling?

The server was lovely about it and took it away and asked if I’d like to order something else - I can’t fault her at all - but my husband was fed up that he’d eaten alone so we wanted to go. Not the evening we’d planned.

I spoke to the manager and she said they had taken my dish off the bill and told me it was one of their most popular dishes and acted as if I must be the one who was wrong about the food. Then she said ā€œwell, you did eat some of it or you wouldn’t know it tasted badā€ which is such awful service - I’d barely touched it. She completely failed to understand the ruined meal needs more than a refund of one dish. Maybe she thinks people usually pay for food they don’t eat? I was annoyed by the lack of apology from her too. Perhaps the manager is the reason the restaurant has gone downhill so much lately. If she’d handled the matter better, I’d have been more understanding but I live locally and will tell everyone to give it a miss.

None of the food was anything special and the portions are tiny. We’d eaten there before and thought the small portions were because we had eaten from the 3 courses menu, but all the food we received today was tiny too. If this had been fine dining, I would understand, but it’s a pub and we’ve eaten far better food at other local pubs for...
