5 stars for the Sunday dinner but 2 stars for the short white haired woman with glasses that works there. She was so rude and tried to use humour to hide it. When we booked and sat down, she said, “Do you want cutlery or will you eat with your hands?”. Which I didn’t know was a genuine question or not, so I awkwardly laughed and said, “Cutlery please”. She then proceeded to put down one piece of cultural each time she walked past and commented, “we’re one step closer”. Me and my parents were not amused. However, when our food came through, it was so lush. Very traditional and you can tell everything was cooked from scratch.

When I was two spoonfuls away from finishing, the woman came back and asked if we were finished. I said, “Almost”, as I was seeing if my puppy would eat boiled sprouts and carrots. She then replied with, “Stop feeding your dog and finish eating then”. Extremely rude and uncalled for. We came for a quiet family holiday and this was not needed, especially for a quiet village.

Please know your audience if you’re saying humorous comments as it was downright rude and insulting telling off a 30 year old woman. I guess they’re extremely keen to get their table back. Dessert wasn’t offered at all and we had to queue to get our bill.

The lush food wouldn’t be enticing enough to bring us back and £10 for a pint is ridiculous.

edit - we only purchased one pint, two soft drinks and three Sunday roast dinners. I would not be coming back to this pub nor will I be recommending this establishment to anyone. It’s more likely that I will tell people to avoid this pub and the older woman with short white hair and glasses will forever be in the story I tell everyone who was passive aggressive in asking if I will be eating my Sunday roast dinner with my hands and tell a 30 year old woman off for...

Having read good reviews of this recently reopened pub we were looking forward to eating here, and drinking here several times during our week long stay in Calstock. On arrival we found the menu to be somewhat expensive. Whilst we were willing to pay the high prices for the fish dishes, we found the traditional pub grub prices to be quite ridiculous. Nevertheless as we liked the ambiance of the pub we decided to order food for the four of us. Unfortunately after 40 minutes our food had not arrived, and noticing that at least two later arrivals had been served, we complained and were told it would arrive soon. Twenty minutes later we still had no food and asked for our money back. So disappointed as the pub has far more character than the Tamar Inn and we would probably have spent at least a couple of hundred quid, or more here...

On 16th May in the morning we visited Calstock and looked at the menu of The Boot Inn and also the Tamar Inn and decided that it was The Boot for us as the menu was more interesting. The sign outside said open for meals on Tuesday to Saturday and it was indeed a Tuesday. On the evening of Tuesday 16th May we parked at the bottom and walked up, but the place looked to be closed, my wife tried the door which was locked and very shortly afterwards a lady opened it and informed us they were closed. These words were backed up by a man whose tirade was extremely offensive. We had no option other than to beat a hasty retreat, go down the hill and throw our lot in at The Tamar Inn. We were both impressed by the standard of cooking, our meal was...

Love this pub in Calstock. Has a proper snug full of newspapers and books. Sunday roast is good and typically huge. Range of beer is good although another draft bitter would be ideal. Maybe the pub had been drunk dry the night before at St. Patrick's evening. The floor was grass!! It was laid for 🍀 apparently. Really friendly land lady who supplied us with chess sets.

Thoroughly enjoyed my brief stop at the Boot yesterday (Sun 10th). 2 very pleasant hours. Great Beer, good conversation, and despite GWR doing their best to ruin my day by cancelling ALL the trains back I managed to get transport into Plymouth in time for the train to London. Many thanks for the hospitality - hope to see you again soon.
