It's ok for just a pit stop.
I stayed here and booked two rooms. First impressions was some old house with a pub below it.
The double that I had booked was below expectations. The room was right by the extractor fans for the kitchen. When the window was opened, the smell of greese mixed with the strong smell of air freshener. Furthermore the noise and vibrations of the fans could be heard and felt until 11pm. However, The dated 4 poster bed was soft and capable of giving a good night's sleep.
The second room was ok. The bed was comfortable and clean. The 'en-suite' was clean also. Although hair dryer was dated, the shower and sink were very clean. It's a shame that the cleanliness of the room did not stretch to the carpet or that ugly chair. The floor had dirt over it and was creaky. The chair was in the way of the room and was way to low to sit in. The room was on the corner by the road making the noisy traffic the first thing you hear in the morning.
Between the rooms the Wi-Fi was pretty good. It had has an average of around 4Mbps download and 6Mbps upload. Great to watch some videos just before sleeping. The carpet between the rooms was clean and the smell was at expections.
However it's the food that makes this pub good. The breakfast in the morning was delightful. It had a cute set of cereals and bread with a small toster by the window. The included full English looked tasty and delicious. It was... The sausages I had were very good and did not taste or look like the crippled sausages you have in a normal hotel.
The staff were friendly and helpful. And very efficient. The breakfast was not a long wait and they quickly checked us in.
In the car park of the pub we loved the 2 donkeys! They were a cute addition to the stay.
I'm giving this pub a 'Its ok' (3) becuse it's not bad yet it still needs some work. Hopefully they take into account this review and make some adjustments....

Visited today Saturday 11th October on what was a beautiful day where the only option was to sit in the beer garden and enjoy the best of the weather. With a dozen people sat out on the grassed area - it was a lovely atmosphere and a nice afternoon for a couple of drinks.
A long while after myself and others had been seated out there a rude lady came out and ordered everyone off the grassed area because "the grass was wet", which firstly shocked me because the grass area has been open for customers every day this week - and suddenly it becomes an issue?
Firstly perhaps it would have been a good idea for the management to have closed this area off in the first place instead of allowing people to access it after spending money - to then be abruptly ordered to leave the area. If you feel it is dangerous then you would still be liable for not closing the area off in the first place.
Secondly it was your mistake to allow it to be open and accessible, then once you appear to rectify your failure, the correct course of action would be to personally visit each table and explain politely the issue, instead of shouting at everyone to get out of the area in front of other bemused patrons sat in other areas of the beer garden.
To treat a dozen guests in this manner, and quite frankly embarrass them in front of an audience is a disgrace and has no place in the hospitality industry.
Thankfully it was easy enough to leave our drinks, leave the venue and visit the Bruce Arms round the corner, where you also do not have to suffer drinking premium lager in a cider glass!
My advice would be to take down that historical banner proclaiming you as "Yorkshires finest riverside beer garden", if you can't enjoy sitting in the sun without being ordered to leave - then its a...
Read moreA pub of two halves. We first went last Tuesday evening and the man behind the bar (Paul?) couldn't have been more helpful - gave a taster glass for the beer and found us a nice table (we had a dog). We decided to go back the following evening as we had enjoyed it so much... it was a totally different experience. We arrived at 5.00pm and the woman behind the bar looked at us like we had just urinated in her drink - obviously missed her vocation as a prison officer or traffic warden. She said we would have to sit in the gazebo as there were no tables available. I said we would be wanting to eat later and could she let us know when a table became available. She immediately said "but we finish serving at 7.30" and she needed to know what time we would be eating. I asked her the time... she replied "5pm". I said we would eat before 7pm. We had a drink outside and when I went back to the bar I noticed a free table. I asked about sitting there and she said she'd let it go as I hadn't gone back inside and told her when would be eating. By this time I was ready to leave but she made a fuss of swapping tables, but also insisted that we were off the table by 7pm. I told her that we would definitely go straight after our meal. Even the guy taking our order looked embarrassed and apologetic for the way we had been treated. Such a shame because it's a lovely pub in an ideal location, and the beer and food are nice. We were planning on having a nice pub meal for our last night of our break, but ended up cooking a curry in our lodge 10 minutes away. I usually go by the rule 'if you can't say anything nice, say nothing ' and this is the first negative review I have ever given, but I have never experienced such an...
