I have been going to the Bunker for years. Reading the reviews below I resonate with the lady who said the reason she went is because she’s local. For years it was the only option in that area. It’s been a very hit and miss experience throughout the years with service and food but mainly the rudeness of staff. There are a couple of exceptions of course. Despite this me and my friends and family put past this and were still able to enjoy each others company and actually found it funny how rude the staff can be.
Today however, will be the last time I have gone there. As this time the owner was actually rude to my son who is despite his appearance is only a minor. He was meeting his friends at St Catherine’s and to his surprise he saw my car and started looking for me and wanted to come in and say hello. He has been to Bigwigs to get himself a pastry for his breakfast. I instantly noticed the daggers from the staff towards my son as he had the pastry bag in his hands. Me and my friend had been there for nearly an hour by this point and had 2 breakfasts and drinks. My son sat down kept his jacket on, we had just asked for the bill and were about to leave. Not really thinking about it my son started eating his pastry and almost immediately the owner came up to him and told him in future he cannot eat that in there in a very condescending and rude manner. I was shocked as I really didn’t think it was that bigger of a deal, there are certainly bigger problems in the world today then to get so pedantic especially with a young boy who’s just come to say hello to his mum. She made us all feel completely unwelcome, even more than usual, which I didn’t think would be possible.
As we left I told her thank you for her comment and reassured her in the future she doesn’t have to worry as we will not be returning. Which to her shocking response was yeah you go next door!
We did actually go in there for a pastry and the owner came in there after us with a notepad and paper writing down things from their menu. Super STRANGE behaviour!
It’s actually embarrassing how much bitterness they have towards Bigwigs and how much unnecessary animosity and hostility it creates within the cafe and in the community. It’s completely antisocial behaviour.
There is space for both business to coexist and even in a peaceful manner but not sure how a business continues to exist when they treat their customers and local businesses the way they do. It’s appalling. I await your response as noticing a pattern to your responses to negative comments is equally great at proving a point of...
Read moreHere’s another out-of-the-way-eatery, just off the Main Airport Road into Christchurch. Closed on Mondays but open late on most other days, the Bunker is a Wine bar, Restaurant and Cafe, though the friendly staff probably have another word for it. Until recently, One of the finest items on their food Menu was their home-made beef burger, of proper cow meat, not this soytofu pap - “DANGER, Will Robinson - Soylent Green is here and coming to a venue near you - soon..!” Oops, apologies, mixing my movies there..! And back to the Bunker Burger, which was served with fresh fries & ‘slaw - and tasted luvverly. Unfortunately, at time of last eating there (mid-September), their chef had received a better offer and departed to another diner, so the Menu was a tad meagre - though what was available was lovely. Drop In and Park easily, do your grocery shopping, get the dog groomed & wash your laundry while having a nice lunch - In or...
Read moreI'm local and would say I visit The Bunker at least once a month. Couple of times now I had really bad service from one particular member of staff, but I kept going...well because its local! Food is alright, nothing special. Although my husband had loaded nachos special pre Xmas and it was pretty awful! Yesterday I went in with a friend, I did have some bread with me that I bought from the bakery next door, maybe it was that, maybe it was something else. But we did order and had lunch. From the moment we walked in we were looked up and down by two staff members that just stood in the bar area, no smile, no greeting, felt like we just should not be there. But we did hear cheerfull chatting when either of them went to another table. The only nice treatment we had was from a lady in dark hair...
