Food mixed bag, my mother and law had steak pie and chips which seemed decent but my wife and I had lasagne which is one of the most mediocre I've ever tasted and quite dry. Another criticism was the fact you could not have your meal outside in the beer garden and had to come inside which was an uncomfortable experience. We would of preferred to sit outside as had our dogs with us, as this was a stop off to our holiday destination.
Our main criticism was the bar maid who was unfriendly, rude and quite frankly lifeless. We felt we were constantly watched and under her scrutinising gaze. Although it was a dog friendly pub, it didn't seem friendly due to the aforementioned bar maid When we first came into the pub, we asked her where the toilets were and getting a response out of her seemed like a huge inconvenience.
Another lady who worked there was on her break and stood out at the front entrance of pub. She was much more friendly and nice to our dogs. Otherwise there were not many positives and would not return of back...
Read moreA pub for "locals" only. We live two villages away and were turned away by the young lad behind the bar for not being from the same village. Despite this being in the middle of the day and the pub only having two tables outside occupied. I can excuse the teenagers attitude as simply a young adolescent who hasn't yet developed a personality but to then call the owner of the pub for clarification later i can see this lack of respect came from upon high. There are so many nice pub's around this area i won't be going back there and will do my best to ensure anyone who visits this area avoids this pub like the plague. My advice would be to keep driving until you hit Bishop Wilton or Pocklington - We were welcomed at the pub in Bishop Wilton (despite not being from that village) and had a great afternoon with staff who were great and couldn't be...
Read moreHad cause to be in Fangfoss for a couple of nights and visited the carpenters arms 2 nights. First night in time for a quiet pint having travelled all day. Very hospitable landlady who I suspect brooks no crapulance. I made enquiries about food for the second night and had been advised get there early which I did. Sat in the snug, alone and had the special, Southern fried chicken fillets with wedges sauce and salad. Freshly prepared and very well cooked. A mixture of bought in brakes type food and some home made fayre which I suspect would be very good. Overall a good local pub, hints of Royston Vasey but if you're a visitor be polite and you'll be OK! Personally I would always prefer this type of pub than the indifferent service and food often found in a chain pub but each...
