Update September 2023 - We called here today for a shared lunchtime snack and was very disappointed. Hence I've downgraded my previous scores. We ordered from their small platters menu - 3 for £15 we ordered hummus and pitta bread, halloumi fried with sweet chilli dip and my partner ordered fish goujons with tartar sauce. Unfortunately it was all delivered together on one wooden board which meant the halloumi tasted of fish, it was so strong in taste I wonder if they were cooked together in the same oil. As I'm vegetarian, it's wasn't nice and my partner had to eat it. Why didn't they ask if we were vegetarian first? I must also comment on the lunch menus, they were grubby and the type print must have been size 10, extremely small. They really need to re-print them in larger print. Old review below - Great pub in lovely rural countryside. Lots of seating inside and out with a large in car park to the rear. Helpful, friendly staff. Great menu, I can particularly recommend the pizzas 🍕 especially the vegetarian Florentine with an egg, plus the battered halloumi with chips and mushy peas. My friends highly recommend the Rag Pudding. The pub also hosts a Meet the Artist evening every month, pre covid, where a local artist talk about their art and display it for people to buy. Such a inspiring idea and a great...
Read moreAbsolutely chuffed with our visit to the Chetham Arms in Chapeltown! The moment we walked in, we were greeted like long-lost relatives, and I'm pretty sure they would have thrown in a free pint if we'd produced a family tree. The decor is so charming, I half-expected Mr. Darcy to pop out from behind the bar and offer me a gin and tonic.
The food? Let's just say if it were any better, I'd need a personal trainer on retainer. The fish and chips were so fresh, I suspect the chef has a secret fishing pond out back. The mince and onion pie? I'm convinced they slow-cook it over a cauldron of pure joy. And the dessert – my goodness, the sticky toffee pudding was so heavenly, I briefly considered proposing to the chef.
The staff are so friendly and attentive, you'd think they were all vying for the title of "Best Pub Employee Ever." Our server was quicker than a hiccup and had a wit sharp enough to cut through the thickest Yorkshire pudding.
Five stars aren't enough for the Chetham Arms. I'd give it six, but then the scale would be as lopsided as my diet after that sticky toffee pudding. If you're in Chapeltown and don't visit this gem, are you even really...
Read moreBest pub in the area and one of the best roast dinners I’ve had in my life. Every component of it is flavoured differently so you can tell so much care has gone into it. Nothing better than this roast and a few pints here on a Sunday (although my partner swears by the rag pudding and says it’s absolutely amazing, I can concur because I do have the tendency to steal from her plate). Read someone said the pints are expensive but it’s 2023 and it’s just in line with everything, very normal if not cheap pricing if you ask me. One Sunday, we got 2 meals, 2 Guinness and a bottle of wine and it came to £60 - not had food that quality and that cheap for AGES! The service and staff friendliness here is amazing - such a perfect pub. Clean, gorgeous pub interiors and always a lovely welcome. I work for Beavertown also and I must say, some of the best Neck Oil I’ve had in the North so definitely clean lines and great cellar work! Attempting dry Feb so I can’t take the risk of such a great pub but my reward will be a roast and a few pints the first Sunday in March - see...
