My wife and I dropped by here on our motorbike on Sunday afternoon, first time we'd ever been here. Had by far and away one of the most disgusting roast beef dinners I've ever had. To wit: rock hard, burnt roast potatoes which looked and tasted like they were a week old; a stone cold Yorkshire which was so soggy it was almost liquid in the middle and had the texture of cold custard; cold, overcooked greens and carrots and purple cabbage that smelled and tasted downright weird; horrible, gloopy gravy. My wife had a bacon, blue cheese and avocado salad which she said was awful and looked really dreadful: some cheap, limp bits of salad with two or three whole, greasy, fatty rashers, still covered in burnt bits from the apparently still filthy grill or frying pan, just plonked on top. Disturbing experience all in all, in that you have someone here preparing food who is clearly incapable of assessing the quality of what they are doing and/or just doesn't care and/or just wants to rip you off. And before anyone starts victim blaming and asks, why didn't you complain, well the reason is that we had somewhere to be and I didn't have the time or the energy to waste talking to people who are patently either clueless or just rip off merchants, so we just got down what we could. You only get one bite of the cherry, you ripped us off and I feel compelled to let people know that. Absolutely revolting.
Thanks for your response. Just to respond to your response, your duty supervisor didn't speak to us in any meaningful sense before we left, she came out and simply asked, and I quote exactly, 'Have you finished?' to which I just replied 'Yes', she then collected the plates and went back inside. That was it. She did not ask us if the food was okay, FWIW. As I said, we had to go, so we just wrote it off as a bad experience, not to be repeated. Regardless, the point is, you should not be serving up that kind of rubbish, which looked and tasted like it had come out of a bin or skip, to anybody, not ever. It's just offensive and insulting, criminal to take people's money in exchange for that. Anyway, we're gone now, obviously we won't be back. I think you should just focus on who the hell was responsible for serving up that, because they either must have known or are otherwise completely incompetent. In either case they should not be in a...
Read moreCame here for bike night a few weeks ago. They apparently have a burger deal on bike night. The issue I had was that they don't specify what the deal is other than "A burger and a beer". For the record I think it's pretty poor decision making advertising deals for bikers which include alcohol and quite literally promotes drinking and driving. The staff themselves were really helpful and friendly but my other issue is that for two burgers and two drinks, I paid roughly £24. What exactly makes this a deal?? Pretty ridiculous. My usual go to place on a bike night does Burgers and chips buy one get one free, one meal costing roughly £12, including chips. Paying £24 for two mediocre burgers and two soft drinks is enough to deter me from coming back to Churchill Arms unfortunately. I'd actually like to come to more bike nights but if I'm honest, I think I'll probably just go to my usual bike night location in Poole.
Edit in response to reply: If my understanding is correct based off of the reply, the deal only applies if you chose to drink and drive. Not only that but what the deal actually includes still hadn't been clarified and also isn't clarified on-site. There's no indication to whether or not you actually save money in this "deal". As the owner correctly stated, we can all make our own choices. Mine is to not support a business encouraging irresponsible...
Read morePopped in here on a Sunday afternoon as we’re staying nearby. This pub has the hallmarks of a great pub- outdoor area for kids, dog friendly, great kids menu. We planned to stay for a few rounds, dinner and a few games of pool. We intended to spend £80–100 for a relaxing evening out. Unfortunately, there was one very unfriendly, rude staff member with dark hair and a tattoo on her inner forearm. She was rude to my husband when he asked for the ice she had forgotten with the order ( I heard him order it too), rude to me when I asked for a suitable pound coin as I didn’t want to use the one she gave us in case it got caught in the pool table slot as it was severely bent. She gave me a lecture on how it’s done on weight so it didn’t matter as she knows the pool table owners. One of her staff were in tears and instead of offering kind words it support, told her to go cry in the cellar. The place had around half a dozen people in there on a Sunday afternoon. It could be- and with the right management, can still be- a brilliant pub. It’s a shame how one rotten staff member can ruin the vibe and cost this business to the point that my husband walked home, got our car and we drive into Fordingbridge and found a...
