My wife and I have been looking for a local restaurant or pub where we could take our dog with us, rather than leaving him at home each time we dine out. Also, as my wife is a vegetarian, so the restaurant or pub had to provide interesting vegetarian options. And, of course, a good selection of fresh, high quality, 'home cooked' food, was also important. We have now found our pub - it's The Crown at Broad Hinton. A few weeks ago, I booked a table for 11 (family meal), which included several (well behaved) dogs. The pub is a pretty building, situated in lovely, peaceful surroundings, with a large carpark, and a beautiful open garden. Sally greeted us upon arrival. The inside of the pub was lovely, with a homely, restful ambience, and the staff were all very welcoming. We were seated in a quiet area of the pub, which provided space for the dogs to settle down. We were given time to look through the menu and make our selections. A variety of dishes were ordered, and when we finished the whole family praised the dishes they had ordered. I and my sons had Ostrich, was was truly wonderful. Sally also provided a high chair for our grand daughter. We had an evening of merriment and fine dining. A couple of weeks later my wife and I (plus 2 dogs) decided to return for a lunchtime meal, taking a close friend with us. The two ladies really fancied battered halloumi, but this wasn't on the menu - however, I did check with the staff, and much to our surprise, the response was "I'm sure we can accommodate - I'll just check with the chef" And sure enough, they did. The battered halloumi was incredible - not the tiny greasy strips that you get at most pubs, but a really tasty, single, large portion, wonderfully cooked, together with crispy coated, fluffy chips, and a colourful salad - perfect!! I had a beef bourguignon (BB) and mash. The mash was as expected, but the BB was out of this world - tender, fall apart beef, thick and really flavoursome sauce, 2 types of mushroom (I think?) with pearl pickled onions which were a lovely contrast. Probably the tastiest BB I've ever had. We had a wonderful meal, in a wonderful setting, looking out on the green gardens outside, and all of this for just over £40 (inc non alcoholic drinks). Even the dogs got a little treat before leaving - I'm sure they'll want to be back there soon. We're just about to book a table for their Sunday carvery, and really looking forward to this - we're sure it'll be absolutely amazing in every way. As you've no doubt guessed, we all feel that, Sally and Jason's "The Crown" at Broad Hinton, is the most accommodating and tastiest place to eat in our area - it comes very highly...
Read moreWhere can I start? We had a family birthday party of seven people and we sat down at the table. We looked at the lunch menu and ordered with no concerns. A few of us ordered the hot sandwich which intrigued us. I have the beef with horseradish and someone else in the party had the pork with applesauce, The sandwich came with two Yorkshire puddings gravy and has already stated the choice of meats for £12.50 when it arrived a few things I noticed the gravy was very thin and very very sweet, The sandwich. I was expecting a handout bloomer loaf but unfortunately the bread was very thinly cut. The beef seemed very thin and look like it was out of a packet. The same goes for the pork. Very disappointing. Two people in the party had the fish and chips, which stated it was in batter on the menu, but when the fish came, the fish looked as if it come out of a frozen packet from the supermarket and also breaded, the batter was overdone and dark brown, The last name in the coffin was one of the party was vegetarian and had the cheese and chutney sandwich again the cheese definitely had come out of a packet, Generally, the food was not at to the standard expected, the service was slow and the young girls behind the bar are very inexperienced, and really really struggled to make a cup of coffee.|For a place that has had new owners just recently really really need to look at the way they serve food.|Unfortunately, we were not returning to the crown at...
