After a long day on the road and stopping at a few places en route only to find them closed or not serving food on Mondays, we made our way to the ever-faithful Druids Arms just a mile or two from where we live. Welcomed by friendly faces we were offered a table inside but plumped for an al fresco meal in the tranquility of the raised garden overlooking meadows towards the setting sun. I had heard much about the pork belly, my lady went for the cider-battered fish and chips and fifteen minutes later both meals duly arrived, served with a smile and a chat. The fish, chips and crushed peas was beautifully done and in her words ‘absolutely amazing’. The pork belly was absolutely out of this world, lived up to every expectation and satisfied completely, the chorizo flavour bouncing marvellously off the broccoli, puréed peas and potato - I would thoroughly recommend trying it to anyone, a truly fabulous meal, well done...
Read moreErrr. Booked a table on a sunny day. The hottest of the year so far. Only thing on the menu was roast dinners. Bar snacks of chips or a pork pie. I don't eat meat so chips it was. I reckon sarnies & ploughman's would have gone down really well with the very sweaty punters. It happens. They get an extra point for having megaliths in the beer garden.
It's a great venue, I hope they nail it as it could have been a...
Read moreAfter having walked the Stanton Drew to Pensford trail including a visit to the stone circles, we had worked up some appetite and it was only right to pay a visit to this village pub for lunch. They have a cosy bar area and also tables in other rooms. There is a large garden with picnic tables to also dine al fresco. On a weekday there were at least 20 people having meals either indoors or enjoying the sun outside, most seemed to have visited the stones just like us. My wife chose Salmon with harissa on a bed of couscous with various veggies and raita from their specials board. I had their homemade burger with skinny skin on chips, slaw and jam. Both were delicious and quantities were adequate. We gave into temptation and also sampled their Pecan pie with salted caramel sauce and clotted cream, yum yum! Christian who was managing the show looked after us very...
