I have been to the 5 Bells many times for meals and I have never had a bad meal here at all. The food is always fantastic. I also belong to a club and the we go here every year for our annual dinner as the food is always lovely and such good value for money, plus this pub has a really nice atmosphere and even when they are really busy you never feel that you are being rushed to finish your meal as someone else is waiting to have your table.
On this visit I held my husband's wake here, after his untimely death, which is the first time that I have ever seen a finger buffet laid out at this pub. Again they produced fantastic food with lots of variety, not just sandwiches, sausages rolls and crisps like you get at other places. Don't get me wrong these items were included amongst other things including, spring rolls, bbq chicken wings, Yorkshire puddings with cheese and tomato in, Cornish pasties and lots of other items to. Again the atmosphere was warm and friendly and we never felt rushed at all. The staff are friendly and very helpful, even providing trays and helping us to cover these trays once we had filled them with the food that we were all taking home with us as the portion sizes are very generous. All in all they produced a brilliant spread for the price and I can't recommend them highly enough. This is definitely a venue that I will use again when I need to hold another event where family and friends are all getting together, only next time I will make sure that it's a happy event not a sad one like this time. In the meantime I will still be going and having lovely meals here. One thing I do need to mention is that you really need to book a table, certainly for evening meals. It maybe best to call ahead at lunchtime too as I know that they can get very busy then too. To me this is also a very good sign that this pub serves wonderful food all day as...
Read moreLovely village family pub. Staff were very helpful and polite. Staff interaction with children when ordering was really sweet and very much appreciated by my daughters who felt very important ordering their own meals. Quality of the food is really good and decent sized portions. Really good value for money, roughly £20 per person for main and pudding. Good choice on children's menu, which has options for smaller children and older children. Although even the younger childs meal was a very generous sized portion. Nice little play area in the garden with slide and climbing frame. My only suggestion would be to offer colouring in /activity sheets and crayons/colour pencils to keep the children entertained whilst waiting. Although tbf we didn't have ti wait too long for our food after ordering, but to a 4 yr old it was "ages!!!! " Would definitely recommend to others and we will definitely be regular customers here...
Read moreDissapointing. I went there for a valentines day dinner. The table next to us (who arrived & got served after us) had their starters & mains before we even got our starters. We'd waited an hour assuming there were just busy, before we asked why we hadnt got them yet. Someone put our starter order in with our mains which the manager appologised for. We were so close to leaving but we stayed even though I was very angry & very hungry. The bill came to full price which I wasnt happy about giving the fact we'd waited so long so I asked if we could get the price of our drinks deducted from the bill (£5.50) & that was me being polite! Which they agreed to. Call me petty, but our night was ruined. The food however was delicious as usual. We also heard a waitress arguing with someone in the kitchen, the table next to us heard it too (pretty unprofessional) We used to go there regularly but we won't be returning after...
