Atmosphere was good vibe, busy for a weekday.
Firstly,
There is no table service unless specifically asked for which I think for such a premium venue youād expect there to be table service. Going up to the bar feels like Iām going to a chain restaurant when Iām ordering at the bar.
Drinks were fresh and tasty, ordered a pint of Birra Moretti and a bottle of Old Mout Berries and Cherries which were both nice. The Birra Moretti cost £5.60 and the bottle cost £5.20, there are no prices for the drinks on the menu but I expected these sort of prices. Glasses were clean and service was quick for these.
Food:
For starter we ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings. The price of these did put me off at first but once they arrived I was more than satisfied with the portion sized. These could be easily shared. It was 5 whole chicken wings and they were all extremely tasty.
For main we both ordered the The Chicken Ranch which states it is a Butterflied piece of Chicken breast covered in Panko breadcrumbs and ranch sauce. We both swapped the fries out for the chunky chips.
Itās sad to say but for the price I did expect more. The brioche buns were not toasted and therefore began to sweat from the heat of the chicken and become soggy. The chicken looked like it had been first dipped in a batter mixture and then put into the Panko crumbs lightly as the meat did look like battered fish. The batter had what I would call normal batter flavours but the actual breast piece did not really taste of anything. The chicken was good quality but sadly not butterflied and the ranch didnāt really taste of anything. I think the chicken was taken straight out the fryer and put straight into the burger and this made the sauce become warm along with causing the salad and bun to sweat causing sogginess. The chips were nice but some were larger than others which meant they were harder as they needed longer to cook.
Staff were kind and friendly and offered a decent service despite the lack of table service. When they came over to collect plates it was āARE YOU FINISHED?ā Rather than āARE YOU DONE WITH THESE? WOULD YOU LIKE ANOTHER DRINK?ā.
Iād definitely come back for the wings and the vibe/atmosphere but the burger was far from satisfying. Looking at other tables the battered fish and chips was like something out of jaws and looked...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMe and a group of 7 friends had a meal on an extremely quiet Monday night, while the food was tasty the service left much to be desired.
Upon arrival we where asked whether we would like to sit at the bar for drinks or be seated and have them brought over to us, we opted to sit, it took 30 minutes for drinks to be brought over and even then 2 drinks were missing. Perhaps a wait like this can be justified at busy periods but there only appeared to be two other tables occupied.
When food eventually came it was good. However it took ages for the waitress to bring ketchup (we had to ask twice and at this point we were the only table eating) and there was confusion with the monkfish as it had not been changed on the specials board, so the meal that came was completely different to what was expected (however this was amended in the bill). An ice cream dessert also did not come as advertised in the menu.
The waitress swore whilst she was at the table because she had given one of us the wrong knife. The bar man spent the entire night playing on his phone whilst we waited too long for drinks orders. I had to prompt the barman that we had been sat with plates waiting to be collected whilst he was playing on his phone and the waitress was nowhere to be seen. When a complaint was made to the barman he basically tried to pass the buck to the waitress.
When the bill came some items had been amended because of complaints we had made, but they had still incorrectly charged us for a bottle of wine that we did not order.
I can understand delays and mistakes on busy nights but it was extremely quiet. The front of house staff seemed like they couldn't be bothered. At one stage there seemed to be an argument/shouting match from the kitchen to the front of house about the confusion with the monkfish.
I don't like to leave negative reviews but it was extremely poor, and there is no excuse on such a quiet night. I can't speak for others in my party but I will not be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWell where to start!!! Very unfortunate regarding this place as we live literally around the corner and had high expectations for such. We booked Sunday lunch as a family informing them beforehand of our allergies and we were very much looking forward to attending the new establishment but, when we arrived and sat down to look through the menu we were surprised that although they had a gluten free menu they didnāt cater for dairy allergies very well at all. The front of house namely Jack was friendly and tried his best as did Jack on the till. However Lloyd the manager on that day was very unhelpful when asked if any adjustments could be made to the menu to cater for our dietary requirements. He didnāt even try to amend anything to make are service better simple stating ānoā to our request for such whisky walking off!! This If you have allergies other then gluten donāt waste your time here. Also the place is self service which is not a problem but for the prices you are paying (£££) you would expect service to be included and in all honesty the food didnāt look that good for the prices you were paying. Unfortunately we had to walk out kindly explaining our reasons to Jack. And we opted go to our usual place namely The Clog and Billycock whom despite not booking in advance due to our last minute circumstances managed to find us a table after a little wait but it was worth it as the service from Lloyd was absolutely brilliant and the food was as always great. In conclusion The Foundry is perhaps ok for drinks only and sadly a missed opportunity...
