Very nice pub. Cozy atmosphere, lovely and helpful staff. Chicken breast in garlic sauce awesome. Salmon filet gorgeous. One of the best food for reasonable prices. Rare ales and ciders. It’s a real gem in Chiltern Hills. Very popular among locals. Parking just next to the pub. The place really worth to visit.

Excellent food, great service, and unbelievable prices. I would highly recommend everyone try this place. Very welcoming, and some excellent walks around this area so this is a good stop over for lunch between walks. They welcome dogs in the bar too which is always a positive!! Lovely open fire too. Superb

With the rare exception the food here is brilliant and the portions are enormous. Staff and service are equally good. A little out in the wilds but worth the drive.

It was my wife's birthday.....

I have eaten here many times and it is normally good, sometimes just ok but last night was substandard and our evening ruined.

I had booked a table for 9 people for 6:30pm [early as we had a 3 year old with us, who expects to eat between certain hours] - no problem.

We told our family to expect a good meal as it is home cooked and fresh and always a good size. In hindsight I should not have raised their expectations.

We arrived hungry just before 6:30 and were taken to a cramped table at the end of the room where the table legs were very close together and so seating was uncomfortable.

Our order was taken at 6:45-ish. One steak, two burgers, two pies, one steak and kidney pudding, a chicken dish and an omelette and for the young lad some chicken nuggets, chips and beans.

We sat and chatted quite happily for half an hour, 45 minutes, an hour. We watched plenty of food coming out of the kitchen door which we were all sat right next to. We watched people arrive after us, order, eat and leave.

We asked the waitress/bar person/only member of staff we saw all evening after over an hour how long was our food going to be and she said about 10-15 minutes.

Half an hour later we were getting annoyed and the child was very hungry and bored and so getting upset with the situation which was making us angry. We couldn't give him any games to play as there is no wi-fi here.

About half an hour later the food eventually arrived but is was disappointing. The steak, burgers, chicken and childs meal were all ok but the pies and steak & kidney pudding were more like Asda than freshly home made and the omelette was leaking raw egg white jelly......

How can a chef under cook an omelette in an hour and a half. My sons aged 12 and 14 can both cook perfect omelettes in 10-15 minutes from scratch?

The omelette was sent back and one of our party had to sit and wait and watch us all eat and wait some more for nearly twenty minutes before the same omelette only cooked this time turned up. Not sure why it took so long?

As a gesture of goodwill for wasting 2 hours of our lives, serving supermarket food and not being able to cook an omelette we were offered the omelette for free. Whoop!

The omelette was the cheapest item on the menu at £6.95 so hardly an apology with conviction when the bill was over £100.

Never once did the chef come out to say anything it was always the waitress apologising, had she forgotten to give the chef our order 2 hours ago? She said not.

So to summarise, poor seating, poor food, ridiculously long wait, no sign of a real apology, no customer service, no attempt for customer retention, careless, carefree, crass failure of what should have been a celebration.

Hell we didn't even have the patience or time to dare order dessert.

Will I be eating there again? I would rather invite my boss to play farmville on facebook, or cough up a lung.

p.s. A sincere apology from the owner or chef would have gone a long way. Good customer service doesn't...

Awful Experience We went in today for lunch and it will definitely be the last time ever. So basically we decided to order the two course lunch meal my brother ordered the gammon and we decided to order the soup aswell as we had my 21 month baby so we decided he could eat the soup and my brother will eat what is left as he doesn't eat alot. The manager basically sent the waitress over to say my 21 month son had to order the adult soup because he is a different person to my brother!!!! So she was basically saying that he could not have the soup as a set menu as that is for my brother only! Like what the hell! She then agreed that they could share the soup but it's only coming out as a starter so therefore she was basically saying If my son is sharing the soup he can eat alone! I am not sure if this woman had a bad day or stressful Christmas but this is no way to treat customers. I was having a meal for £14.95 so we were spending over £30 so I am not sure why she is being so funny over some soup. She was trying to force us to buy a children's meal for £8.00 but my son can not eat that for lunch and this menu is up to 12 years. We took my son out the baby chair which upset him. 2 other customers came up to us and said they understood from our point of view and didn't understand why the manager was being funny about some soup. They said we should not be forced to pay for a kids meal or adult soup for a young toddler. In the end the experience was a Godsend as we had the most amazing meal at the Hare and the Hounds and they could not have been more lovely. They gave my son a kids pack and made us feel so welcome! My son got his soup and they were happy to make him a kids size at a reduced price thank god not every pub is just greedy! Happy...

I recently visited the Four Points for their much-advertised Sunday roast lunch, and I must admit I left feeling incredibly let down. Unfortunately, the roast was a far cry from what I had hoped for. The meat, which I believe was meant to be lamb, looked insipid and appeared to have been boiled rather than roasted. It was overcooked to the point of being unrecognisable.

The accompanying vegetables were also a letdown, overly soft or way too hard and lacking any real flavour. What were passed off as roast potatoes were white with no colour to them, and dry and floury inside. The quarter potato that I ate was a quarter too much!

It was disappointing to see such potential go to waste in what should have been a superb traditional meal. In fact, sadly the meal was totally inedible and was returned virtually untouched.

It was very surprising when the bill arrived with absolutely no financial recognition to this whatsoever. The waitress said that she had told management that our food had been returned but a full bill was still presented to us. We asked to speak to the manager who was dismissive of our comments as to the quality of our food and the return of almost full or untouched food. Her reasoning was that other diners had eaten theirs! She was in fact rather rude. We suggested that at least one meal if not both should be removed from the bill, under somewhat duress, she removed one.

Needless to say, we will not be returning and would advise anyone who enjoys their Sunday lunch to give this place a...
