Excellent food, good-sized portions, and nice, friendly service and décor. ———————————— What happened! The above comment was made two years ago and things have changed. The prices have crept up over the past year. E.g., my favourite meal, the liver-and-bacon with mash, went from approximately £16 to £18, so I started to back off a bit. Other items had increased commensurately. We visited again the other day and found the menu had altered significantly, my favourite, along with other meals, having disappeared altogether. One of the aspects I liked about the Fox & Hounds was that its menu was pleasingly different to that of a lot of pubs which generally offer the same old tired fare. Unfortunately, this is the route the Fox & Hounds has suddenly taken and at astonishing prices that have unequivocally convinced us that this was our final visit. Scampi and chips at £18.95! A dash of lime in my wife’s lemonade was extra at 40p. Soup at £8.95. This shocking shift will do the pub no favours, an effect of which is already noticeable by the far fewer customers that were in there, their overheard comments, and the dark, closed-off areas.

We were staying locally and Nathan at the St Day Holiday park recommended the pub. It did not disappoint. The service was amazing and the food was really good. A good choice and a specials board too. I had the sizzling platter and it was excellent.

I ordered two dishes and the first dish was a fish pie, it looked like a student has prepared a pre-made dish at home served in a casserole tin and the taste was not appropriate for £21, the second dish was tortilla skillets with prawns in chilli sauce, the prawns where not fresh and the chilly sauce too sticky and it did not taste good. The sauces, guacamole did not look and taste appropriate, as well as the tortilla bread served which tasted like a piece of wadding which costed almost £23 for a dish. I refused to eat both dishes and asked for a discount however they charged me £23, which was not fair considering both dishes were not worth the price. I was told by the service team that all the customers described the food as nice however it was not the case as I said to them it looked better on their pictures than what they have served and surely for 4.8 star restaurant / pub should serve better dishes then this. See the photos attached. It's unacceptable to serve these dishes for this kind of price no matter which customers they are serving. I would not recommend.

I’m not normally one to leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience in the hopes that it helps others make informed decisions — and encourages this establishment to take food hygiene seriously.

During my recent visit, I witnessed several concerning food safety violations by the landlord who was preparing food behind the carvery serving station. At no point did he wear gloves, and he repeatedly handled cooked meat with bare hands. What made it worse was that he was also using his phone in between, then returning to the food without washing or sanitizing his hands — a major cross-contamination risk.

To add to the shock, he wiped his hands on his clothing — which is far from sanitary — and even sprayed cleaning products directly around the food. I visibly saw the mist/spray land on the food that was sitting out for customers.

There was also a dog bowl that had food scraps wiped into it with the same towel full of cleaning product on the cutting board where the roast meat was sitting and being carved.

This level of disregard for basic hygiene standards is unacceptable in any food-serving venue, especially one where customers are trusting the safety of what they eat. It made me question the cleanliness of the entire operation.

I sincerely hope the management takes immediate steps to improve...
