I have given one star simply because I wanted my review to be registered. It wasn't worth even that. Our booking for an annual meal included seven adults and two children, one under two and the other aged nine. We were shown to a table at 3.15pm. Our booking was for 2.30pm. Without food since breakfast, we had to ask for a Yorkshire pudding straightaway for the little one. When the mains arrived (we were too hungry for starters), the vegetables were tepid, the roast potatoes were anaemic and cold. The sticky toffee puddings for dessert were also cold. If the Fox Hole couldn't handle our booking, it should never had accepted it. When mentioned to a member of staff when paying, a deduction was made for one of the puddings. When mentioned to the supervisor, he apologised. The woman who took payment said we were asked if we would like to wait for a bigger table. We were not. It was said that one was available but if we had known it would be 45 minutes we would have said no, we had two children after sll. The reason we had booked at all was that our experience previously was excellent. The supervisor started to say that if we'd like to book again.. I stopped him and said we would not be...
Β Β Β Read moreWhy only three stars? The place tried hard to give the impression of a gastro pub, with its modern/shabby-chich style. Unfortunately the menu lacked variety with only one choice of vegetarian starter and main courses that seemed to want to make use of as many pieces of meat as possible. I did wonder if healthy eating has yet to arrive in this part of the North. Unless you had just come back from running a marathon, the portion sizes were big enough to make a main course the only dish needed. A little finesse would make a great difference. My starter of chicken liver parfait was in fact bought in chicken liver pate. Nothing wrong with that if this was what it was called on the menu. The fishcakes were lovely but too big. Having three smaller patties rather than two huge lumps would have increased the enjoyment. But, they were swimming in a thin sauce of mixed flavours, I couldn't quite decide what it was, which made for a soggy breadcrumbed crust. All in all it was a slightly disappointing experience. Of course, if its a get together you are after where the company is more important than the meal, this could make for the perfect...
Β Β Β Read moreWe have been many times in the past. Nice restaurant, good food, good service, friendly staff... Now back during Covid19 pandemic... No cares no track and trace... Scant observance of Covid19 advice. Staff don't seem to understand about social distancing. Only time hand sanitizer was given when bill was presented and I asked to pay by card and obviously the bill was higher than the new Β£45 contactless payment. The wireless card reader was picked up from a communal shelf near the serving hatch and brought over to me unsanitized I entered my card and pin and was provided with a bottle of sanitizer to clean my hands after using their unsanitized device. No staff equipped with face coverings no one way system. We were the only people who wore face coverings on entry or exit. Covid19 outbreak imminent no suggestion we complied with track and trace. They didn't even remember taking our booking, though to.be fair they had my wife's mobile number recorded in their diary. Sorry was a nice restaurant. But we would advise in current climate give them...
