We ate here after a walk and they advised us on the phone that they had gluten free options. When we arrived, they did not have a GF menu or any options marked as GF (first red flag). When we ordered, the server did not know in detail what was gluten free and had to check (second red flag). They have things on their menu like Mac and cheese (which turn out to be Mac and cheese BALLS) and chicken wings (which are BREADED but this is not outlined) (I am not claiming the Mac and cheese balls to be gluten free, I am just outlining that the fact they were balls was not made clear on the menu). As someone who is coeliac, their food made me very sick (it was the chicken wings, which they swore we're gluten free and even went back to check they were) and it caused me the worst glutening in a while - which led me to the belief that they were either fried in the same oil at the same time as gluten items, or had physical gluten in. I have never been glutened as badly from contamination or sauce so it must have been actual gluten. Expensive for what it was and took us 2 and a half hours to finish our meals because of the length of time it took them to bring our food and the time between courses - despite the pub not seeming very busy. I wouldn't really recommend this place - and I certainly would not for dietary requirements, especially if...
Read moreCalled in on the off chance of a table for my husband's birthday. The lovely Laura was very helpful and gave a good recommendation of the Scotch Broth soup for starter which I had and it was delicious. My husband had the black pudding and a type of chutney which he enjoyed. For main I had salmon Wellington and vegetables which was extremely nice and my husband had steak with peppercorn sauce, onion rings and chunky chips which he really enjoyed. For dessert he had vanilla rice pudding and mine was rhubarb cheesecake. Both were delicious. It was a 3 course meal for £21.95 and well worth it. At the end they brought a lovely board with fudge, cinder toffee, and crumble with a sauce saying Happy Birthday which was a very nice gesture. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff were very nice especially the lovely Laura and would highly recommend a visit but might be best to book although we were lucky and got a good table next to...
Read moreWe rang on Saturday to book for Sunday Dinner the following day. Though the gentleman on the end of the phone didn't give us a lot of confidence that the kitchen would be able to cater for my mother's allergies, we decided to give it a go anyway. How glad are we that we did. On entering the building the lady behind the bar couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. Our allergy issues were dealt with and we were assured the kitchen would be able to cater for her needs. The Sunday 'Lunch' which we had at 5pm was absolutely delicious, honestly the best roast beef I have had in many years. The staff were wonderful and couldn't have been more helpful, without being in our face. If we were to have one niggle it would be that the place (in particular the toilets) could do with a renovation. But honestly, even bearing that in mind we would fully recommend this place to anyone looking for a knock out...
