Going down hill. Have always loved the Running Fox, we always visit for a special occasion and treat. Past 2 visits have been poor. 1st visit being at Longhoughton - the sausage sandwich comes in a patty form, everything was dry and generally just really poor. 2nd recent visit being at Longframlington (where we have been a few times) and on an afternoon tea for two we received two slithers of sausage in the bread in one sandwich and three slithers in the other, they used 2 sausages at a push. The chicken & bacon mayo sandwich had no bacon in it - we were told that it was within the mix, but I think on this occasion it was just the chicken mayo mix which is also on the menu. We feel as though we were treat as though we were in the wrong when this was brought up. We asked for a 2nd pot of tea (a fresh one we were happy to pay for) and we were given more hot water in the same tea pot with the same tea bags. I’m unsure whether we were charged for this or not. The service wasn’t the best and we won’t be returning as you expect a better experience at...
Read moreI visited here with 2 friends. We were booked for afternoon tea at 3pm. My friend had checked and was told they were open until 5.30. One of my friends cannot have dairy products and we have eaten at another Running Fox previously without issue but she was told she could only have the vegan afternoon tea. She insisted the waitress check and it turned out that there were other things she could have. I was given only one cup of coffee. I expected a refill but none was forthcoming. The sandwiches were amazing, though one had to be replaced because a request hadn't been passed to the kitchen staff. I had a cheese scone, which was nice, but I'm told the fruit scones were dry. My quiche was delicious but sadly the banoffee pie was disappointing. Mostly cream with little caramel. By 4pm, the staff were cleaning toilets and sweeping up around us and we felt we had to leave. For £26.50 I felt it was poor value with poor service and feeling rushed out. We will stick to other locations of the Running Fox and not return to...
Read moreA slightly unusual "accidental" review this, I was riding along on my motorcycle and suddenly realized that I was REALLY low on petrol, purely by chance I came to a halt on the carpark of The Running Fox tea room, I explained my plight to the lovely staff and then decided as I was there anyway to sample their coffee and cake, I can report that on both counts they were excellent, it's a lovely place, beautifully done out and plenty of rustic charm, anyway, before long one of the girls there had gone home and grabbed a gallon of petrol- which originally was destined for her mum's lawnmower, and gave it to me! I couldn't thank this absolute angel enough, and infact she wouldn't even take payment for it!! I did offer an evening meal as I was stopping in the area, she never did take me up on that sadly, but the point being the whole place is full of lovely people and when in the area again I will definitely pop in and sample more of their...
