Have frequented this establishment many times for meals for family numbers from 4 persons to 10. 4 of us was there last night the 13th of May for a birthday. Long story short, food good, drinks good price, service terrible. We were given our food by a tall guy with bushy beared who plonked the starter plates down so hard on the table in front of us it was like he was serving cattle. We all looked at each other, it was so bad in how it was served. He did exactly the same with the mains and just pushed my plate across the table at me pushing my cutlery out of the way. It was lile we were just animals being thown our food, The only reason I didn't t react to it was I didn't want the spoil my sisters birthday meal. I paid the bill, on the way out I Spoke to the manager and complained, giving him the details of the appalling service we had received. His response was that it was probably due to the fact they were very busy. What a reply to give to a customer. I told him that was no excuse. He then Said it could have been because the guy serving us was tired. I was given no apology at all in anyway at anytime. I walked away totally disgusted by the whole experience from both the waiter/whome ive been informed since is the assistant manager and the manager himself. Reading this review site it appears there have been other complaints about this same tall guy with a beared at The Great Northern. I will go again as its my local, if this terrible service by this guy happens again then the whole pub will be aware of my displeasure re this appalling service. I won't be so...
Read moreIts a nice pub with a good selection of drinks. We visited last night and with the nice weather, it was busy and the atmosphere was good. The place itself is nice on the outside with plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the sunshine. The inside is equally as nice. The staff are all friendly, helpful and accomodating. The service was still very good despite the demand. The only thing that let the place down was the food. We ordered a nacho sharer for a starter followed by a Chicken and Leek pie and a Chili bowl with potato wedges. The nachos were slightly under cooked so there was a lot of grated cheese on the plate. The chicken and Leek pie had a fantastic pastry crust which was delicious however, the chicke was shredded to bits which made the inside of the pie a little gloopy. The Chilli bowl came with what looked like an entire baked potato chopped up and the mince tasted very grainy, like it had been frozen and pulled from the microwave. All in all, we had a nice time and will go back. The pub is definitely a great place to go. The atmosphere and staff were great and the drinks were good. The food was good but could have been better, hence 4 stars...
Read moreI have always had a good meal here, however; we arrived and they had no record of our booking and no resolution. So we went i to the bar for a drink and ask if we could eat there and could but needed to order at the bar, no problem. We ordered and sat down, now the bar is very run down compared to the other side, there is a corner seated area that would not look out of place in a crack house. Anyway we both had Chicken and Stilton pie which I have had there before but this time wasn't the best, pastry went from rock hard (my wife left hers) to something that felt like it came out of a microwave. We did actually ask if they had been microwaved and were told no. The pie filling was slop no pieces of chicken and no real sign of Stilton.
It was edible and ok but probally the worst meal I have ever had at this establishment. Staff were very good other than some guy with a beard that seemed in charge that really needed to learn how to interact with humans.
We actually used the function room and I have to say the buffet was very good and the staff were more...
