What a shame! 12 of us met yesterday at the pub for lunch and a catch up. All friends from school meeting together for the first time in years. Also celebrating a 60th and an 80th birthday.
Clearly, a group excited to see each other. We were the only people in the pub except for one other person when (after having a lunch - and the latest round of drinks) we were asked by the young man behind the bar to quieten down as we were laughing too much and too loudly!!!!!
This is the same surly young man who said nothing when serving us; no please’s or thank yous. He also spent most of his time behind the bar on his phone. In short, his customer service skills were dreadful - so to be ‘told off’ by him was nothing short of annoying and deeply disrespectful. At this point, we had all eaten in the pub - and spent a fair bit of money. We are not a rude or foul mouthed circle of friends, just a bunch of ordinary people enjoying seeing friends.
The food was sadly average. I had the ploughman’s which had two stale bits of bread, the smallest chunk of cheese and a salad that looked more like a side salad rather than a main dish.
After the young man’s comments, we decided to leave and went to the George in Great Missenden to continue our catch up - preferring to spend our money there rather than this pub.
If a surly looking young man who appears incapable of making conversation - and who is on his phone is behind the bar when you walk in, do yourself a favour and turn around and find a pub that is more appreciative of...

Read moreWent in a few nights ago for a drink and ended up staying for the atmosphere and music. The food was great compared to a lot of the other pubs in the area (I'd highly recommend the katsu curry). The young blonde gentleman behind the bar was very polite for my whole stay, willing to have a conversation with me while it was quiet. Its so nice to see life breathed back into an establishment through a refurbishment and I feel the team here have created a lovely experience for all visitors. Will absolutely...
