An unplanned stop off on the way to Edinburgh turned out to be one of the best meals out we’ve had as a family!
The friendliness, the welcoming atmosphere and feeling of homeliness envelop you like a warm welcoming hug from the moment you step in through the doors. This isn’t just about the great food, it’s about the experience.
The place is wonderfully decorated with a great mix of traditional and modern. Really comfortable seating that makes it easy to settle and enjoy.
Every member of the team are sincere and genuine and elevate it beyond just looking after a customer, it’s clearly somewhere everyone is proud of and it’s important to them that every customer is looked after and welcomed. Just the little things like sitting with you to take your order and give recommendations. None of the imperious glancing down at you to simply write what you’re having, it’s more involved and personal. After such an amazing start, the food had a lot to live up to. It did not disappoint!
Don’t miss out on the scotch egg starter. Perfectly cooked, runny syrupy golden yolk, light but perfectly crisp breadcrumb coating. Delicious.
The Wild Mushroom Stroganoff, seasonal vegetables and wild rice was stunning. Mushrooms tender but without losing their texture and not overpowered by the sauce. Just delicately balanced and super tasty.
The Roast Chicken Breast, crispy skin, braised cabbage peas & bacon, sage & onion stuffing, garlic & bacon loaded hasselback potatoes, chicken & sage jus was stunning. Elegantly presented and beautifully portioned. A fusion of a high quality restaurant meal that still has something that gives you that echo of your favourite Sunday dinner but without losing that occasion of your meal out.
8oz Ribeye Steak, dauphinoise potato, roast vine tomatoes, mini onion rings, seasonal vegetables, garlic butter and optional Stilton Sauce was wonderfully cooked. The dauphinoise were the highlight and a perfect accompaniment to the meal. The Stilton sauce was well balanced and didn’t overwhelm the meal as they often do. Steak, medium rare, cooked perfectly.
Caramel Parfait, toffee sauce, salted popcorn, caramelised banana, honeycomb and biscuit crumb for desert. Great combination of textures with soft, crunchy and chewy. Sweet, salty, caramelised and not sickly. Just full of flavour and yet light and a perfect end note to a perfect meal.
This place truly offers not just a high quality meal in a beautifully decorated and cosy restaurant. It’s like being welcomed into a home where you’re greeted by people who just want you to have a great occasion and stunning food. The balance of attentiveness (enough interaction to feel welcomed but not too much where it’s overbearing) is as balanced as the flavours of the menu.
Don’t miss this place. You...
Read moreThe food was absolutely amazing, and it was clear that the chefs put a lot of care into their work. Each dish was a delightful experience, with flavors that complemented each other perfectly. The presentation of every meal was also impressive, making it a treat for the eyes. Service overall was good, and the staff was attentive to every need. They ensured that everyone was well taken care of throughout the entire dining experience. The atmosphere of the place was cozy and welcoming, adding to the overall positive experience. The lady who served us came across as a bit abrupt and even sarcastic, which made a few on the table feel a little uncomfortable. I wondered if this was just her personality or if something else was going on that day, but her tone made it difficult to fully enjoy the experience. Perhaps she was having a bad day, or maybe that's just her way of communicating 🤷♀️. It's tough to say for sure without knowing more about the situation. I'm hoping it was just a one-off thing, and others have had a better experience. Ultimately, I try not to jump to conclusions and give people the benefit of the doubt 🙏. Over all was a great time, and would definitely...
Read more"DONT GO CHANGING.." Its been a while since our last visit but from Pauline, Ade and Helen's welcome as we walked in to the "see you soon" as we left everything was perfect. Guests spaced out nicely and staff wearing face shields which takes away worries within these trying times, it was all relaxing. The food..OMG, Is still amazing. Fish cakes, tempura prawns and a twice baked soufflé were delicious.. which then took us to our main courses, steak, burgers and the Parmo were simply delicious, but the star of the show this evening was the haddock with spring onion mash and parmesan - the fish was cooked perfectly. Washed down with a bottle of Pinot Grigio..mouth watering.. Finished the meal with chocolate brownie (1 mouthful just couldn't finish) but the frangipan was demolished.. watch that Helen she sneaked a spare spoon to my wife who had said" oh no, no dessert for me, I'm full.." can't wait to make a return.. Keith Jo...
