Well, what a truly wonderful stay we had. My daughter booked a night here as a birthday treat for me, along with tickets to Eden and The PSB gig. We had a lovely welcome at reception, the services were explained and we were shown to our room. The room was fantastic - real class, exceptionally high standards with a really comfortable bed and luxurious bed linen. The bathroom was wonderful with a great shower. We were so thrilled to have aircon, which was very quiet yet highly effective. The room itself seemed to be soundproof as we had a totally undisturbed night. We enjoyed a meal that evening in the Kingswood restaurant and were looked after by the lovely Lily, she was a delight. The food was phenomenal, we enjoyed every bit (and what my daughter couldn't manage was kindly wrapped up for her). Breakfast was so delicious, and the lovely waiter and chef were both immensely kind and accommodating. We were late to arrive (huge apologies again) having slept so well and not woken! Despite this, this very sweet gentleman and a very patient chef still provided a cooked breakfast for us, along with coffee and juice - we were so grateful for this. The breakfast was wonderful and it set us up for the day ahead. This is honestly the nicest hotel I've stayed in and I've stayed in some very nice ones. The restaurant was truly fantastic and the food delicious. We will return - thank you for a very enjoyable stay!

What a rip off. £15 for the slowest and poor breakfast! Wow!!! I am not normally one to write bad reviews, but this place well and truly earned it. Every step of the way took forever. I had to get up and find a clean cup without lipstick myself as I just could not get the waitresses attention. When I eventually was served and food arrived the cooked breakfast the mushroom and tomato were stone cold and did not come with toast so I had to ask for this, it arrived when I had finished the breakfast and was pretty much superfluous by this stage (only came with enough butter for one pice of toast, not two). I would have expected to have been asked if I’d like toast or it to come with it as I haven’t. The ordeal took over 50 minutes and by this stage I was running late for my meeting booked that morning. I travel a lot for work and all restaurants take about 30 minutes for breakfast, this place is almost double. Other guests and I were all exchanging looks at how slow it was taking. Finally at £15 I’d expect more than a pot of tea and cooked breakfast (with toast of request). I’d expect to be offered toast, juice, cereal possibly some croissants? Personally I this this would have been over priced at £9 but £15 is really the top end of breakfast pricing, especially in Cornwall. Definitely not good enough!

After a stunning lunch for Mrs T. we decided to push the boat out and have a restaurant dinner. I phoned the Kingswood this afternoon and I spoke with Peter who was our superstar chef this evening. We booked a table, which is advisable, and arrived promptly with ourselves my son Kie and Benson the lurcher. Nick showed us to a lovely table in the orangery and we settled ourselves in. Nick brought me drinks with psychic like capability but his touch is amazingly light yet absolutely attentive. Our order were taken by Kendra, who is ace and equally phsycicly attentive yet discrete. Our meals came and they were at least 5 star if not higher, the portion size, quality and taste were absolutely fantastic. There is great attention to the details at the Kingswood and it really shines out from entry to exit. A top birthday treat for Mrs T, and Kie and I scored a bonus feed. Thankyou guys top marks all round

Whilst on holiday in Cornwall, my wife and I came across this place and from it's good reviews and recommendations we were excited to try it.

We arrived at 6:30pm on a Monday night. We were sat in the "lobby" and given menus. We assumed there were no tables available or something so didn't think much of it. Several other couples were sat waiting too. After 15mins we ordered a couple of drinks, which we didn't receive until 30mins later. We then ordered our food which seemed odd since we weren't at our table...We thought maybe it's a weird restaurant where you order and then when it's ready they seat you so you can sit in comfort instead but there was no explanation of why we were in the lobby. After an hour of waiting and not being seen to, I walked to check how busy the restaurant was since it was taking so long. It was half empty...huge numbers of free tables and we couldn't believe it. We finally were seated at 7:50 (1 hour 20mins after arrival) with no apology or explanation. We then waited a further 20-30mins at our table til the food came!

I ordered the burger, which was nice, to be fair, if not a little overpriced. My wife ordered a falafel burger, which had no information about what it contained on the menu. I have a severe nut allergy to peanuts. However, since there was no mention of nuts on the menu, and I eat falafel all the time, I tried some of my wifes food, to discover it was full of nuts. Identifying several nuts which looked like peanuts, I spent the next hour panicking, wondering if I was going to have a massive reaction any minute, took a bunch of steroids and was ready with my epipen. After waiting hours for food, now this! Nearest hospital miles away and no phone signal here...My wife went to ask the waitress, who had no idea what the food contained, and wasn't at all apologetic but went to ask the chef. Thankfully, although it contained several nuts, it didn't have peanuts. Panic over. But no apology or sympathy from staff and quickly were taking our money for the bill.

Couldn't get out of there quicker, evening absolutely ruined.

Long wait for no reason, no explanation, staff have no knowledge of allergens on the menu, not at all apologetic or sympathetic about what could have been a life...

We booked this restaurant for our anniversary. We wanted a nicer place. We were on holiday.

This restaurant was nice but the service from the first waitress who attended us wasn't satisfactory. When we placed our orders she asked if we wanted any other vegetables with our meal. We asked what the choice was then chose brench beans. When food arrived we were given a bowl with cabbage, peas and some green beans. We looked surprised - we were offered french beans, not a selection of greens. My husband said that I couldn't have cabbage or peas. The waitress response was that this was the way french beans come. I replied that we were not made aware of this. To which she replied that I didn't mention to her my allergies. I don't have to mention my allergy when I order straightforward food. Not food with hidden vegetables, not mentioned at any point. I would suggest to tell future customers what vegetables etc they would be actually getting.

Overall the food was good. The service could be much better.

An update.

I received an arrogant response from the restaurant owner: "Our menu clearly states, French style peas and beans with lettuce, onions and butter. Whilst your lack of knowledge of what Peas à la français is...".

As I said above, we didn't read about extra vegetables, we were offered Feench beans. Not Peas a la français. If we were offered Peas a la français, we would have asked about the details. Yet, we were offered Frech beans. When someone offers you french or Green beans but thinner in this country people expect to receive green beans, not cabbage. We were served cabbage with some beans on top! Not peas and beans with lettuce, onions and butter.

Probably best to teach your waiting stuff to learn the names of the dishes. I suggest next time to read the review...

Having eaten here in the past I felt confident to take some guests for a meal 10 days ago. Whilst the food is consistently very good, a night out is not just about the food but the whole dining experience. I am writing this review, as the duty manager promised to get in touch to discuss what went wrong that night, but I haven't received a call and ultimately THAT is the most annoying factor. If I had been contacted I wouldn't now find it necessary to highlight the issues here namely... we waited 1 hour 20 minutes from arriving to receiving our starters. Furthermore our table had a faulty leg which was the cause of a glass of wine spilling over a guest's dress. We advised both our young waiter and waitress separately, but we were not offered a replacement drink AND we were charged for the spilled one at the end of the evening. The waiter did apologise about the table leg and tried to fix it, but to no avail and we had to move to an alternative table. When leaving and speaking to the duty manager we were surprised that the unsatisfactory issues of wine spillage and slowness, that we had mentioned to the waiting staff, had not been reported up the chain, hence the manager being unaware and saying I would receive a follow-up call. I'm guessing it was just a bad night, combined with the inexperience of youth, but, having briefly raised these points with the duty manager on leaving, it would have been nice to get the promised follow-up call. So a number of things leaving us unfortunately disappointed on...
