Tucked away in a tranquil rural setting, Lambs Green Inn offers the kind of pub experience that feels increasingly rare these daysâauthentic, inviting, and consistently excellent. Whether you're looking for a hearty meal, a quiet pint, or a relaxed evening with friends, this five-star inn delivers on every front.
From the moment you arrive, the charm of Lambs Green Inn is unmistakable. The building itself is a beautifully restored countryside inn, full of character. Ivy-clad stone walls, leaded windows, and a rustic timber exterior make for an idyllic first impression. Inside, the atmosphere is warm and timeless. Low beams, exposed brickwork, and roaring log fires combine to create a space that feels like homeâbut with just the right touch of sophistication.
The service is exemplary. Staff greet you with a genuine smile and treat every guest like a regular. We were seated quickly despite arriving during a busy lunchtime rush, and our server took the time to talk us through the menu, offer recommendations, and check in at just the right intervalsânever intrusive, always attentive.
Lambs Green Inn boasts a well-stocked bar featuring a rotating selection of local cask ales, premium lagers, and an excellent wine list. Their selection of craft gins and tonics is also worth noting, especially if you're after something light and refreshing before a meal. Itâs clear the team take pride in curating their drink offerings as much as their food.
Speaking of foodâthe menu is where Lambs Green Inn truly shines. It strikes a wonderful balance between classic pub favorites and more refined seasonal specials. I started with the baked camembert, which arrived perfectly gooey and infused with rosemary, served alongside warm bread and a tangy onion marmalade. For the main, the slow-roasted pork belly with cider jus and creamy mash was an absolute standoutâcrispy crackling on top and meltingly tender underneath. My partner opted for the mushroom and leek pie, which was generously filled and encased in golden, flaky pastryâcomfort food done right.
Portions are generous without being overwhelming, and the kitchenâs attention to detail shines in every dish. Even the accompanying vegetables were fresh, vibrant, and perfectly cooked.
For dessert, we shared the sticky toffee pudding, which lived up to its reputationâlight and moist, drenched in a rich toffee sauce, and paired with vanilla ice cream. The coffee afterward was hot, strong, and well-made, rounding out the experience with finesse.
The inn is also family-friendly and dog-friendly, with a well-kept beer garden thatâs perfect for sunny days. It's the kind of place where time slows down, conversations linger, and you leave feeling genuinely looked after.
In short, Lambs Green Inn is the very definition of a five-star pub. Itâs a rare blend of traditional charm, exceptional food and drink, and warm hospitality. Whether youâre a local or just passing through, itâs well worth a visitâyouâll likely be planning your...
Read moreAs somebody with a compromised immune system, I have avoided restaurants and eating out in general for the past few months. Yesterday we decided it was time to venture back 'out there' and we arranged to eat out. My girlfriend invited her family, who we have not seen since March and the 5 of us arrived at The Lambs Green Inn yesterday afternoon. The process of finding us a table was quite long and drawn out but I understand totally that there are procedures to follow during these uncertain times. My only stipulation was that I only felt comfortable eating outside, I did not feel comfortable sitting inside.
An outside table was arranged and we sat down. It had been raining during the morning but by mid-afternoon it was dry. Anyway, the seating area is undercover so if the weather turned, it wouldn't have been an issue. The waitress came out to take our drinks order and we asked for the food menu. She replied that she did not think they were serving food outside but she said she would check. Leaving us sightly puzzled as to why they would be serving food inside and not outside, we awaited her return where she confirmed that they were not serving food outside. I explained about my medical condition and the fact I did not feel comfortable sitting inside and the waitress left once more to speak to the manager.
When the manager came to speak to us, I haven't felt so dismissed and irrelevant in my life. When the manager was questioned as to why they were not serving food outside she replied "It's too much of a risk to my staff if the weather turns". Dumbfounded I began to imagine what sort of weather would justify such a concern. It was apparently safe enough to serve drinks outside but not food. I am still frankly baffled by this response and can't get my head around it!!. When I explained about my medical condition and my discomfort at eating inside, I was met with a very half-hearted 'sorry'.
Needless to say, we cancelled our drinks order (possibly saving a staff member from an unfortunate weather and real-ale related accident, after all it's too risky to carry food 5 metres from the door to our table) and we went to The Fox and Hounds just down the road. What a difference!! The service was impeccable, we sat outside with no adverse affects to ourselves or the wonderful serving staff and had a lovely meal. I feel sorry for the staff at The Lambs Green Inn who lost out on the revenue from 5 adults worth of food and drink, in a time where establishments such as this are apparently crying out for our money.
Take a tip from me, spend your hard earned cash at a more deserving place such as The...
Read moreDisappointed. Booked well in advance for Sunday evening to celebrate my Wife's birthday. On arrival told that all of the roasts had sold out at lunch time, as had the fish and chips and the Lamb Koftas. That's 6 items off the menu that weren't available! - We were told by one member of staff that people had turned up for lunch that hadn't booked. Another member of Staff later told us that everyone had booked. - Regardless, had enough food ever been allocated to the dinner session, meats like pork and turkey require cooking for far longer than the establishment would have, on realising that they were going to run out, to use the meat that was allocated to the dinner session (in my humble opinion as a qualified Chef). It's also debatable if they would have time to cook the evening's allocation of Beef and Lamb if they sold out at lunch? - No decent establishment would roast meats for the Dinner session at the same time as the Lunch session, - it would be very dry by the evening! - Given how quiet they were, (and having being told that everyone had booked), I suspect that they just wouldn't cook the roasts for the dinner session? Having had an email from the establishment only the previous day, encouraging us to save time by looking at the menu before going, only added to the disappointment and doubts about why so many items were not available. Also, as they had our phone number, it wouldn't have been impossible to phone us to inform us that a large percentage of the menu wasn't available, which would have given us the option of cancelling, or alternatively, informing us before showing us to our table. - A member of the team, was facetiming a friend, whilst sat at a nearby table to us for most of our meal too. - The person on the other end was so loud that she could be heard above everything. - That's just rude in our opinion. - It would be rude if it was other customers, but as it was someone that we had seen go behind the bar, it's unacceptable! - We appreciate that things have been hard for the industry due to Covid, and that it will take some time to get back to normal, but this just wasn't good enough in terms of the the number of items that were not available, or the conflicting and hard to believe reasons given! One of our favourite establishments for many years, but this has had a big impact on our opinion. đ Manager contacted me. She was sarcastic, condescending,...
