We found this place purely by complete chance because we have previously been here for the fish and chips mobile van in the rear car park on several recent occasions, for our fish and chip suppers. The fish and chip van is owned by the pub owners.
We started using the fish and chip van at the rear of the pub through the word of mouth from our social circle of friends who had all praised and recommended the chip van for the quality of their fish and chips and other âchip shop type of foodâ. Just to say that the quality and taste of their fish and chips is second to none and has been our family go to for fish and chips now for the last couple of months.
So itâs because of us all in the family using the pubâs fish and chips van that we all noticed that the pub itself also does Indian food inside. We took the opportunity to book me and my mum and sister in for a meal this evening, a Monday, to try their Indian food.
Their menu Is a little bit smaller in comparison to what you would normally expect to see in a Indian restaurant but it does include all of the key dishes that you would expect to see on a restaurant menu. They have all of the usual different types of Indian curries that you would expect, they also offer several different types Indian meat platters, the Indian types of breads as well as a selection of biriyaniâs etc etc.
The three of us ordered 2 x lamb biriyaniâs and a butter chicken, chicken Balti and a lamb jalfrezi. My sister absolutely loved the butter chicken and her naan bread, my mum enjoyed her balti and I loved the lamb jalfrezi. We all shared the 2 lamb biriyaniâs and all in all we found each of the dishes very tasty and delicious.
They were all individually very flavoursome and tasty, sometimes you can order different curry dishes in an Indian restaurant and they can all taste kind of similar but thatâs certainly not the case here., they all had their own unique identity and you knew that you were eating the actual dish that you had ordered because they were all authentic in their own way. Finally just to say in regards to the food, that the portions were all very generous and plentiful, so much so that there was more than enough for each of us to eat that we had to ask them if they would mind decanting what we couldnât eat into containers for us to bring home with us, which they had no problem in doing.
I have also had a quick read of the other previous reviews on here tonight after our visit this evening and they didnât reflect the experience that we had there tonight. The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. They made sure to clean our table and wipe it down for us even though it was in our opinion already clean and spotless. Our final bill was a lot less than I expected it to be, which also included a few beers and a bottle of wine.
It is in a working pub and itâs not a restaurant but this makes absolutely no difference at all. My, my sister and my mumâs overall experience and thoughts are that this place as well as its fish and chip van outside are the very definition of being a little gem of a place which is hidden in plain sight, apart from Itâs popularity of takeaway orders that we all saw being collected by their own delivery drivers all evening.
Please take my words for it above as to how amazing it is, so much so that not only is their fish and chip van our now go to place but their Indian food inside the pub is also now...
Read moreVisited here for the first time since moving to the area. It was nice to be able to walk to the venue and it is easily accessible.
The venue was lovely, the first part is the restaurant and bar area, in the back they have a fish and chip van and a lovely outdoor sitting area, complete with another bar and gazebo for sports!
The food was delicious, we had popadoms wi the a pickle tray and two starters followed by the jalfrezi and balti with rice and chips.
Drinks were reasonably priced, which makes a nice change from a lot of places and one of the main reasons that I will return!
In total our bill came to about ÂŁ75, I believe about ÂŁ50 of it was on food and the rest was drinks. I think this is really good for the quality of food provided.
The only thing I can say I wasnât 100% happy about was the length of time it takes servers to come back to your table and the time in between courses. They didnât swing by to ask if we needed anything else or if our food was ok (it was amazing but not the point). Because you cannot see round the side to the bar it may have been because they were very busy and as me and my partner were saying; some eaters prefer a long time in between courses to socialise and chat. This is me being very nit picky and not necessarily a flaw.
If youâre ever in the area I highly recommend you visit. Whether itâs for a curry, a pint or to sit in the back with some fresh fish and chips. Itâs truly a...
