We went to this pub after reading good reviews and the online menu looked nice. Had a lovely day at longleat with family and arrived at pub for 630pm. We had to ask twice if anyone was going to take our drinks order as sat for a good 20 mins without anyone coming over. Ordered a bottle of Prosecco and were told the pub only has 2 flutes which were given to the table next to us as they had ordered Prosecco too. Poured a glass and was very dark and tasted awful. I took the bottle to the bar and the barmaid said she thought it looked off when she opened it!!!! I replied why would she serve it then!!!?? Strange! My son ordered a southern fried chicken burger which looked amazing when it came out. We had two other kids with us too and their chips came out uncooked and rock hard. We complained and they were re fried and brought back out. I had the southern fried chicken platter. Cut my chicken open and was pink and raw in places! I then panicked and grabbed my sons as he was halfway through and his was raw too!!! We called the waitress over again and the chef came out to us. She said she was the landlady and chef and said she temperature checked it and it’s fine! We replied and said that it’s pink and raw how can she say that! Her response and excuse was that she was rushed off her feet - there were 4 tables of people In there! No excuse to send out raw chicken. Yes we didn’t pay for mine or my sons meals but the excuses rather than apologies were awful and I would urge people to check the chicken going forward as I have been very ill today and not good on a 2.5 hour journey home! Such a shame as we were celebrating my sister in laws 40th and hoped the meal would be the icing...
Read moreThe staff here were friendly, but everything else about this pub was considerably below expectation. I would not recommend this pub to anyone based on my experience today. We were waiting a long time to even speak to the barman to ask about getting food, I then had to leave the bar to speak to his colleague who informed me that I would have to wait for half an hour to order Sunday lunch (all pretty much the same core ingredients anyway) at which point I had to return to the bar and wait again to be served drinks while we waited. Once the food was ordered it took an absurdly long time to arrive, and when it did and I asked for some horseraddish to accompany my roast beef nothing came. The vegetables were all aldente but at least the potatoes were nice even though there were so few of them. I had been discussing the possibility of having a desert but at this point we really didn't want to wait another hour or so for an Eaton mess so called it a day there and went to settle the bill. Even this was harder work than it should have been with our drinks and food being split across two tabs and the guy behind the bar being unaware we had eaten at all. Overall one of the most disappointing pub lunches I...
Read moreVisited this pub this evening for the first time for dinner and drinks. I must say we had a great experience from the moment we walked in. We were greeted by welcoming staff, great selection of drinks and the best pork belly we’ve ever had!
We were really impressed with the cleanliness of the entire place (especially the toilets) the atmosphere is the best we’ve experienced in the area.
Exceptional food for a reasonable price. Friendly staff, clean cosy environment, log fires and dog friendly.
If you’re looking for a homely vibe with a relaxed friendly atmosphere this is the place to go.
Will definitely be returning time and time again!
