Returned here after a couple of years due to closure.. Comparison made with other well used locals. Lough pool Orles Barn Moody Cow.

Service very good and smiley. Happy to move us to a table nearer fire.

Food. Bear in mind I am a Food Specialist so comments are made in the spirit of improvement.

Moules. Very good portion. Fresh, a small know of butter on the dish and some FRESH flat leaf parsley would improve it so much in appearance and taste.

Burger. My wife enjoyed it Good portion and garnishing. Far better than Moody Cow offering.

Lamb Shoulder. Slow cooked but over done, tender but very fatty, Would be helped to render fat more if cooked higher temp. A Lamb shank (OK quite common to find would be a better option) Single orange carrot bright broccoli under and single potato portion. Bit mean so ordered extra veg that came very quickly. Nice red cabbage, not over vinaigered but any apple, clove, or onion in it? Carrot tasted very old and held in water too long before cooking.

Sticky Toffee pudding. Normal canteen type. Just sponge. Be great if you could taste or see dates in it.

Wine. Very good Rumanian Pino Grigio.

So overall. Some improvements in food products with a little more development could bring the MR up to the level required to compete with others.

Staff and Management friendly and...

We found The Mill Race on a spur of the moment search for a Gluten Free Sunday Lunch and it was a real gem! My partner is a Pescatarian and gluten intolerant and it was so nice to be able to go out as a family for a Sunday Lunch and be so well catered for. I had the large 3 meat Sunday roast which was delicious! My partner wanted the vegetarian nut roast, but it was one of the few items that couldn't be made gluten free. There were still extensive options though and she had the Cod and Roasties (pictured) she said the fish was amazing. We shared a lovely selection of vegetables including gluten free broccoli cheese. Even the carrots had been laid out nicely in the serving dish. Our children had the Chicken Goujons and chips and the portion was big, they both ate it all which is a rarity! The inside is stylishly appointed and you can see into the kitchen which looked clean, well organised and well run. All the staff were very polite and courteous. I would definitely recommend The Mill Race for Sunday lunch, especially if you are...

How disappointing. We used to eat here as often as twice a week when we lived close by as it was excellent. Emphasis on the WAS. We returned today and wished we had not. After a long closure for a re-fit, much of the homely ambiance has been lost along with Anna and Adrian the fantastic management pair who were there before. Now the prices have increased and the portion sizes halved. There's not enough trade for them to keep draft beer on tap and I was served a squid meal with capers which was tasteless and without capers. When I asked for them, rather than a simple admission they had forgotten them, I received a hands on hips assertion they were included. As a one-time restaurateur, I know a caper when I see/taste one. Defending the indefensible was a mistake. My wife's smoked salmon was virtually tasteless and the accompanying potato salad tasted of damp cardboard. A dreadful shame as the establishment now gives every impression of being on a slide...

We stopped here for lunch after an exhilarating walk in the forest. The Mill Race Village Pub is on the main road in Walford. It is a fairly large establishment with an airy dining room. It was quite busy on a Friday lunchtime with at least 20 people eating inside. A smiley lady named Gosia took our orders. We had Steak Frites, onion rings, fried egg with Peppercorn sauce and one Steak and Ale pie. All food here is cooked to order from scratch with seasonal local produce. Therefore it takes 20+ minutes for the food to arrive but it is certainly worth the wait. The steak was cooked just right and the peppercorn sauce was thick and spicy. The steak and ale pie was steaming on opening the crust and was very tasty. Accompanying rosemary carrots, beans and braised red cabbage were good too. A homemade sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice-cream sprinkled with crunchy caramel honeycomb was simply divine. No wonder so many people were having their lunch here.

OMG 😍 The team at The Mill Race - Walford, Ross on Wye. Have done themselves proud once again. The food was absolutely beautifully cooked with an explosion of flavours that all complemented each other perfectly, Fresh local produce at its best ! The staff where working there socks off as where the kitchen team all working well as a team it was seamless. The service was brilliant even though they had two new waitresses on you wouldn't have known, the pub was warm clean and comfortable as always, and well I think this is absolutely in the top 2 if not the best Sunday dinner in Ross and I'd go as far as the uk Nice one Team Mill Race.
