The Mowchak — Restaurant in England

We normally really enjoy their great value Banquet on a Wednesday night, but tonight I arrived at 7.30pm with 4 friends, and only 4 other people in the restaurant all night, and were told no desserts included in the Banquet tonight, or Poppadoms, and only 1 side dish and 1 rice to share between two... but the price is the same? We decided to pay £1 extra for a Poppadom each so we could take time to have a catch up before ordering. We had our starters and mains, which was delicious as always... but it seemed clear they were in a rush to close up after the other people left at 9.30pm. We were still having a chat and eating, but then they started clearing the table... so we didn't bother asking for the included coffees and got our coats to leave! Granted the waiter kept giving out chocolate mints, but come on guys... if you're going to promote a Banquet, don't cut the menu in half and then make us rush the food we do get for the same price! I hope they don't go further down hill as the food is always great, just need to remember in this current climate that some people are only just coming back out to socialise again and would actually really like to enjoy...

July 16, 2025 - Partner & I celebrated our 20th anniversary, and of course, The Mowchak was the place to have something delightful to eat. I’m actually running out of praise for this gem in Downley Village, Buckinghamshire. Banquet Nights on Wednesdays, and Sundays, is still a thing. And I can not stress enough, if you haven’t visited, please do. Struggled to finish off my plate earlier - too many poppadoms p’haps. But whatever you choose, you’re 100% getting value for your money. Staff are attentive, and on a personal level, thank you to you, you know who you are, for surprising my partner and I, with a cake at the end of the evening, and giving us both your best wishes, and congratulations. What a great little take away/restaurant. This was originally part of the much bigger & well established Mowchak restaurant in stokenchurch Bucks. The food is awesome here and the chef is always willing to adjust the dishes to exactly how your taste buds want. It's a great little family owned business and there's absolutely no comparison to the food within this vicinity. You can book a table for 2 to a table of much bigger sizes as long as you book well in advance. Can get a bit busy during the weekends, the only thing I didn't like was the close distance of the table layout that's obviously due to the small size of the premises, however your always going to be welcome and accommodated no matter what the size...
