The first contact didn't start well. From making an online booking to turning up at the restaurant, I received 4 emails and was unexpectedly charged £10 in advance. This was later taken off the bill. After that, the experience was near faultless. It has beautiful views of open countryside from the back. The interior is tastefully decorated and has a great, warm atmosphere. Some of the tables enjoy the beautiful views. The menu was nicely balanced, with a good variety of dishes. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free are marked on the menu. Service was top notch, polite, professional, and efficient, throughout the meal. The food was of a really good standard, nicely cooked, seasoned, and presented. We thought the portion sizes were about right. We'll happily be making a return.

Stopped here today after a lenghty drive from Loch Lomand (4.5hrs). Cant say enough about the place, we were too early to eat from the dinner menu but i didnt fancy anything from the lunch menu, the chef kindly agreed to sort me out with a burger from the dinner menu and it was great, generous portion and proper meat! Other half had a salad which she thought was lovely too. Since we enjoyed our meals we had cheesecake from the cake/bake shop inside the pub for dessert, they both tasted as good as they looked albeit it too much for both of us to finish. For a little over £30 for 2 drinks, 2 mains and 2 desserts we couldnt of been happier. If we are driving by anytime again we will definitely call in. Highly recommended!

Excellent Sunday lunch, roast porchetta and veg were cooked well the gravy was very nice, highly recommended, beef I was told was also good. Service all on point, the staff friendly and professional. Our children (4Y & 2Y) were well catered for, Mac 'n' Cheese & Cod goujons went down well. The Ferguson tractor outside also a winner for little ones whilst we sat outside. Wine was not so great I’m afraid, maybe I picked the wrong ones for me from by the glass list, Siete Fincas Malbec & Granfort Merlot, neither were full bodied enough unfortunately, I’ll go for a St Hallett Faith Shiraz next time, as I am sure we will be back. The Nose of cheese was wonderful. Thanks and see you soon!

I am writing a review of our terrible experience at this establishment and to respond to the fiction of the response to the review below. I am the mother of a seventeen year old boy who has severe Crohn's Disease. This is an inflammatory bowel disease and causes crippling pain and an urgent need to go to the toilet. My son is registered with a disability and is registered with the Crohn's and Colitis organisation and carries their need to go disability card. We were travelling home today along an A road that does not have any services. My son was doubled over in pain for miles along the road so I pulled into this establishment's car park so he could use the toilet as it was an emergency. There wasn't anybody near the entrance or behind the bar to show his card to so he proceeded quickly to the toilet to avoid an embarrassing accident. Upon his exit from the toilet he was met by an intimidating, aggressive male who firstly tried to block him from leaving the pub and then followed him out of the pub threatening that he was going to teach him the lesson not to use other peoples toilets. Instead of giving my son the opportunity to explain in a sane and calm manner, he chased him out of the pub, following him into the car park screaming at him and threatening him. My son has been seriously ill for over a year and is very frail. The first thing I knew that anything was amiss at this appalling establishment was when he hurried from the pub with a large framed man following him shouting he was going to teach him a lesson. The male stopped chasing my son when he realised that he wasn't travelling alone but was with myself and my daughter. I went up to the male who was acting in an unbelievably aggressive manner to protect my son and get him safely back in the car. I tried to reason with the male and explain the situation but he responded that he doesn't care if my son was in pain or if people have disabilities and it isn't his responsibility to look after them. His lack of compassion, vitriolic abuse to disability, myself and my son, and his threatening, intimidating behaviour and sheer aggression was disgraceful. I understand that having a disability does not entitle anybody to use the toilet and it is at the discretion, understanding and goodwill of an establishment but there isn't any excuse for the way that my son was treated today and he most certainly should not have been followed out into the car park...

It looks like this place has had a refurbishment recently, tastefully done and very comfy chairs. Unfortunately my positivity ends there. There were ladders lying in the entranceway and the bar was very cluttered. My other half ordered cider and ended up with lager instead, no big deal, we went with it. The young lad that served us didn't know what the soup was, didn't bring us any cutlery and sadly didn't come to clear our dinner plate twenty minutes after we'd finished. The food was below average, the carbonara was awfully bland with little to no hints of bacon, with the garlic bread being soft, not very buttery and altogether disappointing. We went to the bar to pay, there was an issue with the till, the young lad had wiped the bill off and didn't know what change to give us. His colleague, another young lass fixed it for him after he complained that the till was in the wrong. He gave her attitude before and after she fixed for him. We were going to speak to someone about our issues with the food and service but it would seem they already have enough problems - the other tables around us had issues too. I understand that staff shortages are everywhere I'm hospitality and a lot of places are falling back onto young staff, but, what I can only assume are the managers / owners were present and offered no guidance to them the whole time we were there. We have been locals for some time now, but sorry, we...

This is a beautiful Pub with lovely flowers at the entrance, along with a great friendly welcome at the door. Unfortunately The Nelson wasn’t quite up to its usual standard yesterday! In terms of food The mushroom risotto 3 out of 10 beef strips was an ok ! Both the chicken saltimbocca’s were Very Dry, frozen inedible fries on the side and a limp and odd tasting salad. Hamburger had a taste of tuna ! The pork definitely wasn’t very appetizing either. Children’s Mac and cheese no flavor as we had to season it with lots of pepper for an 8 year old and the hamburger was not good according to a 12 year old. I honestly came to the conclusion that the chicken, hamburger and pork could only be so dry because it had been cooked hours before! juicy and succulent we’re definitely missing here ! We ate the meal because we were very hungry but Very disappointed. YesI did want to send mine back but I didn’t want to embarrass my son as he was introducing his new girlfriend and we had a friend over from Switzerland. We ordered dessert thinking what could go wrong!!! The staff were attentive and friendly but did lack in their surroundings to check on us to see if we needed drinks or if everything was OK, we had to try and get their attention most of the time. I have recommended this pub to others before and that’s why we came. But I won’t...
