We happened across this pub in Tow Law because we we were stopping at the co-op in the town on our onward journey. Next door was this pub. Outside was a sandwich board saying Hot Beef baps £1. It took our fancy. We took away three. They were delicious. Another board offers Sunday carvery, two courses for £6.95. We are tempted to return. This isn't the Ritz and it is plain and simple inside but for a cheap and pleasant meal for hardly any money we'd recommend it. We wish we had a local like this.

This pub at Towlaw on the A68 road , we did not eat here but enjoyed a pint and a chat after work with the brothers. Will post a photo shortly.

A pub with very low standards. Extremely hard to get served as there are stools right across the bar where people sit, bar staff are unhelpful at best. There are no badges or signs on the taps so you can't see which beers are available, the only way to find out is an awkward conversation with staff when you can get close enough. The food is ok but there are much better options out there if you're looking for a nice meal with the family or a Sunday roast. The decor is dated and rough, with peeling wall paper, small tables and clutter; a warm welcome and cosy atmosphere is off the cards. The Newmarket is a pub geared towards catering for a small number of locals, and is unlikely to recruit new customers any time soon, would...
