We decided to stop off yesterday (Sunday) for a bite to eat whilst driving home and really didn’t fancy cooking after a long drive and after a bit of Googling we came across this place which would indicate it would be a worthwhile visit given some of the reviews and just a few minutes off our route, we booked online to secure a table. Well…….after waiting for roughly 5 minutes at the bar (we the only people at the bar) we were finally recognised and ordered drinks then show to our table. Then some time after the drinks and glasses were brought out only for one of the glasses had to be returned as it was dirty. We then had to wait another 15+ minutes for a waitress to take the food order, strange as it wasn’t that busy. We both went for the trio of meats roast at £26 each…….yes you get three meats but the thinnest slice of beef, a very small cut of pork and tiny bit of the end of a chicken breast, all lukewarm at best, the veg was weirdly rubbery and burnt and 100% Aunt Bessie’s stuffing, a couple of burnt stones was the appearance and probably the same taste. Pretty much put off before even trying it, I poured on the gravy which can only be described as pure ground pepper liquid which (personally) I found so inedible it was the perfect accompaniment for the food. Once the ‘gravy’ was on the food everything tasted exactly the same, lukewarm, rubbery, burnt and so overwhelming drizzled with this ground pepper gravy our thoughts were agreed that this has got to be one of the worst plates of food we have had in a restaurant. Yes we did complain (as did another table near us) when the plates were removed from the table (almost in the same condition as they were delivered) at £26 each + drinks it’s disgusting and SO many alternative restaurants to choose from with probably fewer scores/ratings that perhaps would walk all over The Old Cherry Tree, I guess what I’m trying to say that this establishment is in no way worthy of a 4.6 score. This was meant to be a little treat from the missus which turned out to be a complete waste of time and more importantly money. Our complaint found its way to the manager who offered no word of an apology and took £13 off one of the inedible meals which they legally have to if the food is to be found unsatisfactory but that really isn’t the point here, the food is! Just to add also, there is limited parking with a car park restricted to about 10 spaces so off road is the only option BUT the road is very narrow, I folded the wing mirrors in but it would have been a very tight squeeze to get another ‘average’ sized car past so ended up moving it into the car park when a customer left. I never write a complaint online for a restaurant or otherwise but this place is something else, it fell at every hurdle, I’m not suggesting not to go to this place…….do but it’s just an honest review. Sorry but we shall never return and I can wholeheartedly say I would never recommend The Old Cherry Tree to...
Read moreWasn’t very impressed with the food this Easter weekend, starters were good and tasty but very expensive, mains were no where near what they should have been for the price they asked you to pay, you could have counted the items on my plate, no flavour, I didn’t finish it and felt sick in the evening. My partner was also hungry after her dinner which was disappointing for the money we spent. The staff were friendly but unfortunately couldn’t make up for the poor food quality and quantity.
03/04/2024 - Thank you for your follow up message, can't find a way to reply to your comment so I have updated it on here. I didn't report anything to the staff as we was never asked how our food was by the server and I wasn't prepared to find a server to speak to, as it was for my sisters birthday and I don't like reporting problems in a busy restaurant, its not fair on the party and other people around us and also me and my wife haven't had that discussion until we got home and both realised we didn't enjoy the food. The other members of the party enjoyed the food so it's hard to make comments when the others don't feel that way these are our views not there's.
Mushroom started was lovely enjoyed that, bit pricey. Scampi and chips was my dish, which was very small and expensive which made me feel ill that night, (this may just be personal to me the sickness), chips was very dry and overcooked. My wife had the chicken roast, she said she enjoyed most of the food, she said the chicken was dry but everything else was nice just not a lot of it for the money we paid.
This is just are views on what we had on the day. We was in on Sunday the 31st around 230pm.
thanks again...
Read moreOk so. This pub is great when Paul is there. The manager. Very accommodating. And knows how to run this place. The pub is hidden and doesn’t really get passing traffic. So they rely on the customers returning. I’ve just deleted my 5 star review. As it seems that you can’t write 2 reviews.. But. Here we go. We visited here 29/08/23. At 1900. The staff were rude. Back chatting. Genuinely. I was so disappointed and disgusted to the point that I won’t return. I’m not sure if the young man was trying to impress his colleague.? But for him to back chat me has infuriated me. We ordered two meals and drinks. £20 roughly per dinner scampi & I had the fish. I asked for more tomato sauce. The young man didn’t answer me. Instead he thought it was clever to over fill a pot of sauce and slap it down on the table. So it would definitely spill. He is very rude. And has a massive attitude problem. Pretty sure Paul Would be very disappointed with your behaviour. Nobody came to ask how our food was. But when the young lady took our plates away, I said that I didn’t enjoy the fish as it was too greasy. She just said. Oh. And walked away. Not even a respectful response. Those two members of staff should not be trusted to run the place in the evening. If you do visit. Go during the day. Happy to discuss...
