Had a bit of a shocker half way through our Sunday lunch, which was OK in fairness, when literally gallons of water flooded all over our table from a leak above the ceiling. All the landlord did was to aggressively tell my partner to take her plate off the table, as she was desperately trying to get her personal belongings away from the flood of water. He then professed that "this happens all the time"! It turned out a washing machine had flooded upstairs, the water went all over us, our belongings and our food. Although one of the waiting staff apologised later, we were not shown to a new table and just left to sort our selves out. We were not offered a replacement and no concession was offered. I would advise looking at the ceiling above where you are sitting for water damage as apparently "it happens all the time". In retrospect it had some Fawltey towers hilarity for which I awarded a second star but not a great culinary experience...
ย ย ย Read moreOh god! Think we'll talk about this place for the wrong reasons for a long time. Don't know if it was because we were out of town, there was very confusing situation when two tables sat down together, too complicated to explain in a review, but I was encouraged to be part of another family. Chased landlord for menu and felt like we were actively put off staying. Next table gave up. Were told wait time for food would be 30 mins by the time we went to the bar the wait for over an hour. We decided to just drink and that was equally difficult to the point it was funny. Offered a choice of tonic water, but could see there was only one type. Another guy tried 3 types of lager before one was made available, complicated by the fact the kegs were attrached to the wrong pumps. Go if you want the Basil Fawlty experience, this is your place. We enjoyed looking at the pictures of food on the review. Three star review for the...
ย ย ย Read moreI was looking forward to having lunch at The Old Ship as i have been here with my dad a few times before and the food has been some of the best i have had in a pub in Weymouth. This time however, things were very different! I don't know if this pub has changed it's chef or owners but the quality of food was worlds apart from before! I ordered the the olives - i was served what seemed a whole jar of jarred olives (the type you use for cooking only) with balsamic glaze drizzled all over them. Not very appetising. The Creme Brule was served cold and had obviously been ordered in and frozen rather than burnt onsite. It was lumpy and again the portion was huge. Overall the food was just bog standard Weymouth pub grub - no better than Wetherspoons. What a...
