We read good reviews so decided to treat ourselfs to a delicious Sunday roast today . The plates were very full and looked delicious but sadly some of the fresh vegetables were cool/ cold , the beef rather hard to cut , the potatoes delicious . In fact the taste of the food was excellent but the meal was not piping hot as it should be . The veg was fresh and portions large , just wish the meal was much hotter . The beef although hard to cut was very tasty . We did politely tell the bartender who cleared the table and I spoke to him again when we paid , he assured us he had told the kitchen. We paid for our meal because we did eat it but it was very cold by the time we put down our cutlery . As a (very) regular pub-dweller I can honestly say that this was one of the best welcomes we’ve ever had, so much so I felt compelled to write this review.
We turned up with our large dog, something that (understandably) can be a big ask for some pubs, not here, he was treated like a superstar from the very first minute and we too we were made to feel equally welcome.
Everything from the food, drink, staff, toilets, fellow customers, hospitality (I could go on) was absolutely faultless, needless to say we visited more than once.
Pubs have had a tough time of it lately and these guys have absolutely nailed it. If you’re in the area then do pay them a visit, you won’t be disappointed. We’ll certainly be back.

Read moreUpdate: this pub now also has very good food indeed over the weekend. I have two excellent local pubs, and this is one of them. This pub is a survivor as it seems to me that many pubs like this have been lost. There is a changing range of real ales. Perhaps the main point for me is the air of conviviality that this place has. It is quite small and you can find yourself making friends with people you never knew...
