New comment: We needed to arrange a last minute wake for a family funeral between Christmas and New Year. The Pheasant was incredibly helpful and accommodating, even helping with suggested quantities of buffet items to ensure we didn't end up with lots of uneaten food. They were really friendly and made us all feel very welcome. They opened early to avoid us having to wait around in the cold between the funeral and the wake. All the guests commented on how The Pheasant had been such a good venue.
Original review: I was pleasantly surprised by our last minute family meal out (15 people). The bar staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. The food was better than I had expected (couldn't fault it to be honest). Although the men's Wimbledon final was showing on the TV, it wasn't obtrusive for those not too interested. The atmosphere was good. Because the Sunday menu has roasts on it, it did mean that some of the choices available on the weekday menu weren't available (I fancied sausage and mash but that doesn't appear on Sunday; they may have been able to provide it if I'd asked but I'm not one to rock the boat).
I wouldn't think twice about coming here again or recommending it to others.
P.S. The sticky toffee pudding with custard is...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe used to go to the Pheasant regularly and enjoyed great home cooked foods so were excited to go after the refurbishment and new management. Unfortunately, it was not good at all. We booked a table 3 days before and arrived to an empty pub. The staff failed to inform us they was no roast dinners and we had to choose from a really uninteresting and very basic menu. When the food arrived it was clear that nothing had been in fact home cooked as advertised and instead we were faced with microwave dinners such as lasagne and ready meal curries which were bland and worse than you would get from the supermarket with not even the basics such as mango chutney as promised on the menu. Honestly guys, you need to rethink, eating out at a pub or restaurant is a treat and should at least be better than you could prepare yourself at home. There is clearly no chefs working in the kitchen and we were presented with the most basic dishes which was both embarrassing to both us the customers and yourselves. We definitely will not be eating here again for sure. Home cooked food with fresh ingredients, NO. You Need to get a couple of really decent chefs who know how to cook and have the passion for really fresh...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas looking forward to this pub being open as I'm a stone throw away. Unfortunately as a person of colour I found it rather unwelcoming. I was stared down uncomfortabley by half of the guests when walking in which is obviously not the pubs fault. But as I walked in to book a table, the lady serving at the bar knew I was next in line and after waiting a few minutes to be served, she completely ignored me and went to the other end of the bar to serve another customer. Embarrassingly the customer was decent enough to point her back to me of which she didn't seem pleased to serve. It could have just been me. I've been to thousands of restaurants and my family and I just wanted to celebrate our anniversary in a local pub but for some reason the atmosphere didn't feel welcoming at all. I'm still believing it was a one off experience and will try again at some point but I'm hoping for a...
