The Plough was temporarily the most famous pub in the world when British Prime Minister David Cameron and Chinese President Xi Jinping popped by for a pint in 2015. In fact with Chequers only five minutes away nearly every Prime Minister is rumoured to have lunched here; and it even featured in its own episode of Midsomer Murders. But back to today: The Plough is a classic country pub and the perfect place to stop for lunch, offering tasty pub classics such as sausage and mash alongside plenty of light bites to keep you going on an afternoon stroll through the Chilterns AONB. If the sun’s out there’s a small beer garden hidden away behind the pub, plus rope swings next to more benches out front. Google Maps doesn't allow an opening year before 1700, which is a shame because The Plough dates back to the 1500s as an old coaching house. If you found my review or photos helpful please leave a quick thumbs up 👍 Thank you!

We went for Sunday lunch to the Plough at Cadsden. Beautiful location but that was over shadowed by how great the food was and most importantly how friendly the young team are. I genuinely think this is the best Sunday pub lunch I have had in a long time and the whole experience including taking my disabled brother could not have been beaten from a service level. Only small shame is that the interior does not match the beautiful country pub setting.

Before eating we walked up to the ridge opposite. What a view! Warm welcome on arrival makes all the difference. Out the way table for two and ordered Sunday lunch. Pork was delicious and the Sirloin beef succulent. Followed by Apple and raspberry pie with two scoops of rum and raisan - what a combo. With two drinks we spent over £50 for Sunday lunch - Worth the spend and definitely going back.

Went searching at short notice for a Sunday Pub Lunch and found this pub in a lovely location within walking distance of the beautiful Whiteleafe area. Plenty of room in the car park. We were seated quickly but unfortunately that is where the good service ended. After 15-20 minutes I had to approach the bar (having been told it would be table service) to ask for someone to take our first drinks order (and by then our food order). The staff at the bar seemed overwhelmed by orders although the place was far from full and I heard such comments as "wheres this ticket from?" And "what's happening with this one?"...didn't fill me with confidence. 45-50 minutes later our food finally came. Unfortunately my girlfriends food was wrong, she asked for a burger with bacon and no other salad/sauce etc, what she got was a burger without bacon and all the salad and sauce (we didn't complain for fear of waiting another huge amount of time to get the correct order). We ordered a kids meal that stated it came with skinny fries, it came with huge chunky chips. The food itself was actually pretty tasty to be fair, although would have been nice to offered a second round of drinks at some point. This place is in a beautiful location and has a lot of potential, perhaps we caught them on a bad day but unfortunately it was let down by staff who just seemed overworked and overwhelmed when actually the place wasn't even at capacity. I've included some photos of the surrounding area just a 15...

First of all let me explain the one star was only given because I had to put something in order to proceed to my review. Six of us met at the pub for a two night stay 13/14 September. We spent over £1000 on an advertised bed and breakfast stay as indicated on their website. Breakfast was not a hot breakfast but a stale baguette, apple (or banana) small jam and an unpleasant orange juice.||||Our meal on Saturday night was served by a pleasant waitress but I believe any one of our party could have delivered a nicer meal. The mattresses on the beds were the most uncomfortable I have ever lay down on with springs being more prominent than perhaps they should have been!||||Since I returned home I must have phoned between 40-50 times. Most of those calls were not answered. I did speak to 3 members of staff and asked them to get the manager Chris to call me. He hasn’t and so I will write as often as necessary to try to avoid others having the same experience as us.||||The pub had an open bar/diner which has bags of character but the staff appeared to lack any enthusiasm or pride in their job.||||Finally, I repeat do NOT give them your money. I do not believe Chris will bother to call me so I have to air my...

Thank you so much to Chris and Anita for their warm welcome and generous hospitality. We were doing a charity walk along the route of the Ridgeway and stayed here for the night, it was well above our expectations. Due to the weather we arrived late but they opened the kitchen especially for the 3 of us. They have a varied menu but I went for the Burger which is supplied locally. It was very tasty and has local bacon on as well, you also get gherkin, coleslaw and fries. The meal was filling and well worth having. The room I stayed in(room 3) has a large modern ensuite with a big bath and shower which had toiletries and towels supplied, and lots of hot water on instant supply. The room has a small fridge, tea/coffee/milk, a kettle, water, radio alarm and TV. There is also a trouser press/iron large wardrobe with drawers. The bed was very comfortable with good pillows and a warm quilt. I had a very comfortable night. Before we set out for our next leg we had a traditional fresh cooked breakfast to set us up, again the bacon and sausage were local with tea or coffee and toast. There is also a choice cereals if you can manage them. I cannot thank Chris and Anita enough, hopefully we will be around...
