I stayed at the Prince Albert with my family (2 adults, 2 children) as a stop over prior to going to Legoland, given it’s close proximity.||We had a ground floor family room, which had all that you would expect and was true to its rating. Though a little dated it felt comfortable enough. However for me, I found the bed far to hard for my liking (some might prefer that). The window to the room opened on to the road and even with the window closed the noise, though not unbearable was there till late. The window could also benefit from black out curtains to block out the traffic lights. ||The bathroom, again basic, was very clean and did the job. However, though it worked well with very good pressure the shower cubical was not in a good state. The tiles weren’t straight or level, the sealant in places was so thick it looked like it’d been applied with a trowel which was untidy and had resulted in some of it splitting and the sealant and a lot of the grout and ceiling above the shower had some mould. The light and fan for the bathroom were on an automatic sensor, and though the fan could be isolated there didn’t seem to be a way to turn the light off, which when you have children that go to the toilet through the night can be a little annoying, even with the door closed. ||As I said, despite what are probably minor problems, the room was comfortable enough and the staff were very friendly.||We had dinner in the restaurant and unfortunately this was not good experience. The staff member was attentive and friendly but after placing our order were then informed that one item had run out, this happened to another family on a different item. You would expect to be informed about missing items prior to ordering. For starters we had ordered some garlic bread and chicken wings. The garlic bread appeared to be shop bough baguette with what seemed like grated cheese from a packet on top. The wings were double so quite big, however the outer skin was quite tough but the meat inside was nice and juicy. However the BBQ sauce tasted very generic without much flavour. The mains were ribs and a chicken burger with Mac and cheese for the children. The ribs appeared to be grilled and were a little over cooked, the chips tasted like they had been cooked in old oil. Unfortunately the chicken burger was also over cooked. The mac and cheese, though for children were a good portion size.||The breakfast was the opposite, despite a technical issue, it was all cooked to order, very tasty and very good portion size which I have to say defeated me. ||All that has been listed are fairly minor and really wouldn’t be much to change.||All in all that stay was comfortable and...
Read moreVery disappointed. We called to book on Thursday for 10 people for 5pm on Friday, and received a warm welcome on the phone. Called back shortly after to up this to 18 people as more had confirmed they could join us, great!
Arrived at the bar as were then told we only had 90 minutes in the restaurant, and despite our protestations that we had actually called twice to book this (think it was a central number for the pub chain), the bar staff could only apologise and say that they had been lumbered by this too. We asked if the staff could section off a few tables with reserved signs for when the kids had eaten so we could relocate, without food, to another area in the pub, and were promised this was fine. We all ordered food and drinks, so not an insignificant bill, and we all vacated the restaurant area by 6.30pm as requested, only to find the pub was full and the staff had ‘forgotten’ to reserve any tables. Some of our group hadn’t even had the chance to finish their food (all came out at different times when cooked) so some just left it, a couple asked for takeaway boxes, not exactly the relaxing meal we had planned and booked.
Food was fine, nothing special, but no complaints, but the experience was ruined by effectively being evicted from the restaurant, despite the reservation.
The final sucker punch was that when we left 30 minutes later, the restaurant was completely empty and not a soul in there. Had we not had a bunch of tired (but well behaved) kids with us, we would have made that point, but the staff did not seem remotely bothered, as demonstrated by the lack of any rearranging or alternate area for us, or the offer of a refund for unfinished meals due to lack of time. So, will be spending our money elsewhere in future. Sadly, the sister pub, the Alma, has also gone massively downhill since being taken over, we live 100 metres away and literally walk past it to go to the Windsor Trooper instead. The group running this consortium of pubs might want to up their game and look after regular, and local, customers, because you are only as good as your last job. Tonight was abysmal,...
Read moreBEWARE OF THE MANAGEMENT: Looks like a lovely British pub, but in need of a little TLC. While waiting for our meal, which took over an hour to come, our table collapsed, causing glasses to shatter and uno cards to fly everywhere. No pressure was applied other than the 4 glasses and it broke under the weight. We moved to another table and proceed to wait for an apology or someone to assist in moving tables, but none came and another restaurant guest ended up helping to clean up the glass. After reluctantly replacing the 4 drinks, they ran out of ice as did the store next door that they use for supplies. We waited another 30 minutes for the meals, we understood being short staffed, but were fathomed when the kids frozen, microwaved meals were presented they were inedible so neither child ate. When getting up to leave, I asked for a refund on 1 of the children's meals and ended up being berated by the female owner of the establishment. We were very disappointed with the whole experience and would advise you to give this place a miss...the Papa John's we had delivered to the Pub was a damn site better than anything they...
