Pre booked to ensure we had a table near the disabled access and a table not too far away and asked for a seat with arms ( to aid standing up). We arrived and the disabled door was locked, the table wasn't ready ( they had obviously forgotten) we were then offered one either up some steps, or I'm the restaurant about as far away from the disabled access door as possible ( leaving a long walk with a stick) also then they didn't provide a hair with arms like they had promised ( didn't say anything at the time as we didn't want to embarrass the member of our party making a fuss. ( We specifically asked for these things well in advance and was told it wasn't a problem. We then ordered food, most of which was okay, but the two sandwiches were served with bread that tasted at least a day or two old. I ordered the New York deli pastrami sandwich and apart from the bread being stale, there was a measly amount of pastrami , I certainly won't be returning. I think they need to Google a pastrami deli sandwich and see how theirs compares !! I might as well of ordered a cheese and salad sandwich. Again had this of not been a family gathering I would have sent it back, but didn't want to ruin the meal out. It's definitely gone downhill from the pub it used to be.

One entering we asked where we could sit with the dog, the lady said gruffly anywhere in the bar but didn't clearly state where the bar area was, believe it's the tiled floor. There was an annoying squealing alarm sound over the music, on leaving found it to be fire alarm near door. I went to collect some menus but a staff member arrived at the same time. Ordered food and drinks at the bar, not sure if they take order at the table. Food prices quite high for burger and chips (skinny french fries (not keen), didn't appear any option for chunky chips). Burgers were very greasy, one was Squealer burger and other Reef and Beef burger which had chilli prawns which weren't very tasty. Price £18 and £19 respectively. Two halves of Beaverton £6.50. Asked for bill to be told service charge of 10% added ...but you can have it removed. Yes please.. two burgers and half a pint each was £43.50 already.

We called as passing, asked for a table for dinner. The lovely lady assistant checked, showed us to a table and took our drinks order all in a matter of a few minutes. This is a beautiful, old traditional country inn, with thatched roof. It has been thoughtfully renovated, decorated and extended. It's is a very busy inn , serving a varied menu of both food and drinks. Booking is highly recommended. Our food was freshly prepared and served quickly. It was excellent in taste, presentation and cooking. A very pleasant meal. I had the dressed crab as shown in the photo, my partner had fish and chunky chips. Dog and child friendly. A free car park and disabled access. This inn is popular with locals and tourists.

Where to start…!? My food was AMAZING!! I had the bread board to start then had nachos and picky bits for my main, then even had a cheeky dessert to finish accompanied by a delicious cup of tea with soy milk which was lovely as most places do not stock soy milk so was a real treat to enjoy a cup of tea outside of my house!! The service was even more amazing than the food, I was greeted by Jill who was super smiley and warm and welcoming she sat us to our table and gave us time to peruse the menu, we than had Jess come over who was just as warm and welcoming, and take our order she was very knowledgeable about the menu and had great recommendations!! Throughout the night both Jill and Jess checked on us and were very attentive to our needs and extra drinks!! At the end of the evening I popped to the bar to double check on the alternatives of the milks (I was up having a nosy around the bar area anyways looking at the other rooms) and Elowenn was super helpful, as I mentioned before soy milk is very rare in restaurants so when I asked and Elowenn said yes we do I was thrilled she even went the extra step and brought the bottle out of the fridge for me to look over rather than just saying yes or no! I ran back to my table to share the soy milk news and my table was just as happy about my soy milk as I was! Then, Jess came over to take our dessert order which came out almost instantly after it was put through! Was the perfect end to a perfect evening out at the punchbowl! I along with my table will definitely be returning to experience more punchbowl! We are already booked in for the Thursday quiz tomorrow for a family birthday and we are super excited!!

So a big thank you to the punchbowl team, especially to Jess, Jill and Elowenn! And I’m looking forward to meeting more members of staff tomorrow at the quiz as I’m sure they’re as amazing as the staff I’ve already met!!

me my mum and my brother decided we would go to the punch bowl and ladle for dinner as we’d been for drinks before and food a few times and it had been great, we arrived at around 5pm and sat in the bar area and ordered at the bar, our food all together came up to £85 just for 3 mains, we are patient people and I have worked in hospitality for 4 years so I know the ins and outs (especially since I worked for st Austell brewery for 3 of those years). We were the first people there and the only people eating at the time and the food took 40 minutes to arrive, our order was fish and chips, pesto pasta, and a steak, as I said were patient people so we weren’t complaining at how long it took. But I had the pesto pasta and I took a bite and it was almost still crunchy it was so hard, again no problem we told our server and she took it back and was having a fresh one made. My family had finished their meal and had been waiting with me for 35 minutes for my food to come out. My mums steak was mostly just fat she could only salvage half of it. My food took so long to come that when it arrived I had to ask for it to be in a takeaway box because we had somewhere to be. When the pasta arrived the server said “well it takes longer because it’s thick pasta”?????? It’s genuinely pesto pasta. Anyway, we received a half ass apology and no offer of free drinks or money off or anything of the sort, which in my opinion is just basic customer service. The pasta was nice but the garlic bread tasted like oil that had been sat in a pan for 3 consecutive days. We probably won’t be...

Pre-booked a table here in advance of our visit to the area. Called in the night before the booking for a drink and was shown the restaurant area which looked lovely. On the evening of the booking we were informed that the restaurant seating was unavailable as a quiz was being held there. We were offered a table in the bar which was fine but would not have been our first choice.

My wife ordered the chicken burger which we were told was a chicken breast and I ordered the rump steak. My wife’s chicken was dry and hard and looked overcooked or reheated. We had to send it back and opted for the prawn linguine in its place. The linguine was plentiful though the sauce was bland and tasteless. My wife only ate the prawns which were few in number.

My steak was served very well done even though I had ordered medium. When I mentioned this, the waitress offered to take it back. She returned with a second steak which was indeed cooked medium though appeared underweight to what was described in the menu.

Overall it was a disappointing experience which is a shame as the pub itself is quite lovely and previous reviews have been good. On paying our bill the staff member removed the cost of my wife’s meal by way of an apology which we were grateful for. However we would not choose to...
