We ate at the queens arms as we were told it was a nice walk along the sw costal path from Trewelland. It only had one vegan option, but we thought we'd chance it..... we ordered the sweet chilli falafel as a starter, which my daughter and I shared. As we were finishing it, and eating the lettuce I felt a earthy gritty crunch, the ends were unwashed and dirty and there were green fly afids on both our plates and in the sweet chilli sauce. So when the waitress came to collect the plates, I asked her to mention it to the kitchen. She confirmed she had told the kitchen and she would sort it out for us. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and stay for our mains. When the bill came we were charged for the starter! I queried this and the waitress said she would look into it. We'd also been charged for a meal we hadn't had. She came back and had removed the starter cost and sorted the overcharged meal. When I queried whether there would be anything further as I eaten dirt, she confirmed they had checked the kitchen fly traps and it had definitely not happened in the kitchen it must had happened at our table (their afids and dirt collection must all have been accounted for) when I queried dirt on the plate and lettuce she shrugged! As if I'd sabotaged my own meal! The owner or manager did not approach us. Not a great experience. A lot of the reviews do mention portion sizes, quantity over quality well in our...
Read moreVery unhospitible pub. The only upside was it felt like a tour of programme 'The League of Gentlemen'.
Entered the pub to be met by a grumpy old man with his arms folded not wearing a Mask but signs for everyone else to be...
Was told to choose any table without a Reserve sign to then over hear him moaning to the waitress the fact that the table we had chosed had a menu on it which he then had to go to the effort to collect and that we are probably another couple from the local campsite to his disgust although we was recommended to his pub by the campsite???
We ordered a drink and over heard the waitress greeting a table next to us that they had no starters or deserts just mains but it was a Monday evening and they had not long opened? So unsure of the lack of food options?
Appears the menu consists of anything fried from a freezer be it chips, bear battered cod, onion rings of mozzarella sticks....
We left! Worst publican on the North Coast. Give it a miss. The Pirate Inn Penzance on the other hand is very welcoming and great home cooked food. Probably wouldn't visit this area any time soon but if we did we wouldn't return to The Queens Arms unless we had no crumbs left in the...
Read moreMy husband and I visited the Queen's Arms today for Sunday lunch, and following reading recent reviews we had high expectations! When we arrived we entered into a very cosy and atmospheric bar area which was were we expected to eat, but alas, we were led through to a rather bare annexe and seated at a small table for two. Unfortunately, the room was also occupied by a number of dogs who yipped and barked throughout our meal and their owners made almost as much noise trying to quieten them. Therefore ambiance was in short supply! With regard to the food our starters (haddock scotch egg and Halloumi fries with jam) were quite delicious, however our main was a bit of a let down! I had beef and my husband had pork but both meats were slightly tough. The carrots and cabbage that accompanied them were okay but rather than the roast potato's that you expect with Sunday dinner we were given potatoes in there jackets that weren't even crisped, and this was accompanied with thin tasteless gravy. The best bit of the meal was the cauliflower and broccoli cheese which was delicious. The service was very good and the price was fair but overall our outing was a bit...
