The Queen's Head, Great Whittington
Having sampled Sunday Lunch at, The Queen's Head, Great Whittington, and found it excellent, we asked if they would be able to cater for a group of 17 in a few weeks time as we were planning a family weekend close by. "If you could look at the menu and choose the meals before hand, that would be a great, help," said David, who, I think, is the co-owner. No problem. He emailed us the menus, we replied, and in due course turned up mob-handed on a Saturday night. The Queen's Head the only pub in a picturesque Nortumberland village. It is best described as rustic, comfortable, unfussy, no jukebox, no dartboard, no pool table. Just great food, great beer, great cheer. Adjacent to the tiny bar is a modest drinking/dining area, but immediately beyond the bar is an extensive dining room where our party was accommodated at two tables at right angles, both fully set. Everything was ready, and so were we. Eating-out with largish parties is almost always verging on the embarrassing. Orders are rarely right, "No, I didn't order swan and chips, mine was the veggie, gluten free pie, with Beaujolais jus." (These items are not on The Queen's Head menu.) At The Queen's Head no mistakes. Everything as ordered came. And it was delicious. Everyone was fulsome in praise of the two cooks in a miniscule kitchen who miraculously produced meals of a high order. At The White Swan all payments are now by card. Another effortless process. A grand night was had by...

Read moreWe contacted the queens head late on a busy Sunday afternoon after travelling from Staffordshire. They managed to fit us in & on arrival we were greeted with a warm friendly welcome. Lovely cozy atmosphere, immediately felt at ease. I think they stop serving food at 4 and as it was 3.30ish they had run out of a few meats for Sunday lunch (a good sign we thought) as It was busy and other diners were all enjoying a variety of meals and desserts. My husband and I both opted for chicken, it was cooked perfectly and piping hot. It came with all the trimmings & a special mention to the home made roast potatoes & Yorkshire puddings, they were delicious! We always try and visit whenever we are in the area and over the years have seen it struggle and even close at one point, but so good to see the owners have brought some life back in to the place and seem to have it just right. I would definitely recommend a visit. Thank you for a most enjoyable afternoon and look forward to seeing you the next time we...
