We found this pub quite by accident and would absolutely recommend it. So characterful and unique, housed in a 1701 building. Really friendly owner and the food was superb: we had the steak pie and fish. Some of the best pub cooking I've had in ages, and for a reasonable price. No frozen nonsense here. Well stocked bar. You must try it!

A fantastic pub. Service is outstanding with a good selection of beers at the bar. The food is absolutely delicious, it is always served to an incredibly high standard. This is a traditional stone built pub in a beautiful country village. The Queen's Head at Great Whittington is my favourite pub in Northumberland.

Fabulous country village pub, only a short detour off Hadrian’s Wall Path, and well worth it. Great Sunday lunch, real ales and the best Northumbrian welcome. Love the open fire near the bar.

The Queen's Head, Great Whittington

Having sampled Sunday Lunch at, The Queen's Head, Great Whittington, and found it excellent, we asked if they would be able to cater for a group of 17 in a few weeks time as we were planning a family weekend close by. "If you could look at the menu and choose the meals before hand, that would be a great, help," said David, who, I think, is the co-owner. No problem. He emailed us the menus, we replied, and in due course turned up mob-handed on a Saturday night. The Queen's Head the only pub in a picturesque Nortumberland village. It is best described as rustic, comfortable, unfussy, no jukebox, no dartboard, no pool table. Just great food, great beer, great cheer. Adjacent to the tiny bar is a modest drinking/dining area, but immediately beyond the bar is an extensive dining room where our party was accommodated at two tables at right angles, both fully set. Everything was ready, and so were we. Eating-out with largish parties is almost always verging on the embarrassing. Orders are rarely right, "No, I didn't order swan and chips, mine was the veggie, gluten free pie, with Beaujolais jus." (These items are not on The Queen's Head menu.) At The Queen's Head no mistakes. Everything as ordered came. And it was delicious. Everyone was fulsome in praise of the two cooks in a miniscule kitchen who miraculously produced meals of a high order. At The White Swan all payments are now by card. Another effortless process. A grand night was had by...

Set in the heart of the Northumbrian village of Great Whittington, The Queen’s Head is a charming old coaching inn that blends centuries of history with warm, modern hospitality. Nestled in beautiful countryside, it’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy the timeless character of rural Northumberland.

Steeped in tradition, this historic inn offers a cosy, welcoming atmosphere, where exposed stone walls and the original fireplace add to the charm. Whether you're stopping by for a hearty meal, a drink by the fire, or a quiet evening with friends, you’ll find The Queen’s Head full of character and comfort.

Their delicious menu is crafted using locally sourced ingredients, celebrating the best of Northumbrian produce. From classic pub favourites to seasonal specials, every dish is made with care and served with a smile. They have a great selection of real ales and fine wines, perfect for pairing with your meal or enjoying on their own. Whether a local regular or a traveller discovering the region, you will get a...

We contacted the queens head late on a busy Sunday afternoon after travelling from Staffordshire. They managed to fit us in & on arrival we were greeted with a warm friendly welcome. Lovely cozy atmosphere, immediately felt at ease. I think they stop serving food at 4 and as it was 3.30ish they had run out of a few meats for Sunday lunch (a good sign we thought) as It was busy and other diners were all enjoying a variety of meals and desserts. My husband and I both opted for chicken, it was cooked perfectly and piping hot. It came with all the trimmings & a special mention to the home made roast potatoes & Yorkshire puddings, they were delicious! We always try and visit whenever we are in the area and over the years have seen it struggle and even close at one point, but so good to see the owners have brought some life back in to the place and seem to have it just right. I would definitely recommend a visit. Thank you for a most enjoyable afternoon and look forward to seeing you the next time we...
