We booked a table to have a meal tonight and although the food was very good, we found the staff and the service not very good. The waiter who was also the greeter asked customers to wear masks when walking around and use the one way system when exiting. This is good practice andnow law, but there were some people not wearing masks and going out of the premises through the entrance. I don't know whether these were people he knew or not but it gave the wrong message and made us feel uncomfortable, particularly when they failed to socially distance and actually shook hands. The same guy lacked good customer service skills and was at times a little rude. One of the waitresses was upset about something and she forgot to serve drinks we ordered and again lacked good customer services skills, not bothering to smile when serving us. All in all it was not the pleasant experience we anticipated and will not return. This is a real shame as it is a lovely pub...

New managers been in less than 2 weeks and they couldn’t have been more accommodating. We were a space short on parking so offered to park behind the host. 6 of us staying in 3 rooms. Great extras like tea and coffee, biscuits and toiletries. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was fantastic not a bit of grease, sausages were unreal, great poached eggs. We had our dog Loki with us who was utterly spoilt by the team too. Even brought sausages for him. They’re really short staffed while they find new so they put staying guests first for food then some walk ins which is the right thing to do. This meant they weren’t overwhelmed too much and were really attentive. £110 per night with breakfast wasn’t a bad price for the area. Would definitely stay again. Decor is quite dark but modern, loo is a little close to the wall in our room not sure if they could be moved but many hotels around the area share bathrooms so we were...

I have just come back from a beautiful stay with my 2 children in this gorgeous inn. When we arrived my 4 year old was very tired and hungry, the landlady made him feel at home straight away and even appeared with a bowl of chips after showing us to our beautiful room! The room was perfect and had everything we could need or want in it! It was nipping clean and for an old building very spacious! We had an evening meal and was greeted by the most lovely young girl, who couldn’t have done more for us! The food was top notch and not a morsal was left on any of our plates! The beds are comfortable and we had a lovely nights sleep xx Breakfast was beautiful and just what we needed to start our day! Check out was just as cheerful! All in all a stunning old building, very clean, very comfortable and absolutely amazing staff, that can’t do enough for you!! Will definitely be staying again!...

What can I say about this place, firstly the hotel itself is set in a charming and beautiful village of Hawkshead, rich with personality and culture. The hotel is quirky and its little labyrinth of rooms and corridors have personailty all of its own. The rooms are beautifully presented, clean with comfy beds and all the amenities. TV, tea and coffee etc hairdryer good storage space. Totally doggie friendly too. Now the staff were on a completely different level friendly helpful and actually had personalities which in some places is a rarity. They made you feel welcome, relaxed and made everything feel as normal as possible cosidering the current restrictions. They could not do enough. The food was out of this world had breakfast (full works) lunch was exquisite and dinner was heavenly. You will not go hungry at all. It was an amazing visit and lovely place very much recommend staying here.

We arrived at the red lion shortly before out check in time but they let us check in early which was great! We had dinner in house for 3 of our nights and I can't fault the food, absolutely delicious! The breakfast that's included with our stay was also fantastic and there were choices of hot breakfast or continental! The room was very clean and tidy, not the biggest but no complaints. Staff are really happy and helpful, if we needed something, they went and got it and they have such a brilliant attitude to what they do and the guests they cater for, they also have a fun sense of humour too! There were no car parking spaces left so one of the members of staff made space for us to park. Overall, we were very happy with our stay and would recommend. Thank you all at Red Lion!!!

Stayed here with my partner while visiting friends. A cosy pub, our room was part of the attic, spacious bedroom, but not high enough for me (no fault of the pub just my height)! Mind the bathroom was the size of an aircraft toilet and a 🚿 like a ⚰️ with a glass door! At least it was en-suite, space a premium. A full English breakfast was nice and filling, served with a smile. (Despite while waiting to be placed at a table, one guest was very rude to the owner. I did feel it was not the place for a confrontation in front of guests!) Hosts helpful and friendly. Pub was near fully booked with it being the Cornoation weekend and a party 🥳 going on in the square. All-in-all an enjoyable stay. And King Charles III popped in for a quick waltz.
