The Royal Oak is a lovely countryside pub. A perfect stop after a walk on the Downs. It has enough parking and loads of space for kids / dogs to run around while you sit in the shade and enjoy a drink. They serve food too, although we didn't try it this time. We'll be back for sure.

This place has big potential. Unfortunately inside pub not open yet, hopefully in autumn they will be up and running. At the moment they serving drinks and some snacks from outside bar. Hudge garden, very nice atmosphere. Definitely would come back.

We visited yesterday, 4 adults, 1 child and 1 baby. When I called to book table the lady was very friendly and when we arrived the table had been set us as I had asked, in fact we wanted to move tables and that was not a problem, the young girl behind the bar was very nice. We ordered food, 2 ploughman’s, a baguette, sausage and mash for child and chicken burger. Bearing in mind there were only 2 hot meals we aired over an hour for the food, which then turned out to be disappointing, the ham on the ham and Stilton ploughman’s was pre packed and the salad was a very poor attempt. When we asked the “manager” small bald guy why we had waited so long his reply was “you can see we are busy by the number of cars in the car park, and it does state on the website you can wait up to an hour” there were 3 other couples in the pub at this time, and the cars were probably belonged to the staff, and nowhere does it state in the website about waiting an hour for food. I then pointed out to my husband, as trivial as it’s seems that it did state the ploughman’s should have come with crisps, so when he went to pay at the bar and was asked if our meals we ok he broached this with the manager. I then went to the loo to hear him mocking us to another customer, I had also heard him earlier in the visit slagging off another customer whose order had come out wrong, blaming the customer only to be told by his kitchen staff that it had been their mistake in fact! He then bought 2 packets of crisps over to us before we left and told us there would be no charge! I should think not considering we had already paid for them as part of our meal. Overall I would not recommend the manager was rude and clearly could not take any negative feedback without becoming aggressive, and the food...

This is not a dog friendly or human friendly pub at all. I would give 0 stars if I could. There was virtually no service, the food was obviously reheated and microwaved and took a very long time to be served. We were a group of 8, wanting to celebrate my daughter's 18th birthday. Our dreadful food was brought to us in dribs and drabs. Most of us didn't even eat half of the food served, infact the burgers were in edible and unrecognisable as meat - more like hard cardboard. The vegetarian menu that I was reassured they had was virtually non existent. When paying and asked about our food I was honest - saying we were disappointed and was told by the manager I was rude! Avoid the place, I wouldn't have fed our meals to our unwelcome dog. Dont waste your hard earned money on, at best, mediocre food in an unfriendly, unwelcoming atmosphere. (I've just read another review where someone was treated in s similar way by...

I had the misfortune to visit this place on Sunday the 9th April. It could hardly be described as busy.I waited 45 mins after ordering two baguettes .The waitress apologized for the delay. A fat bald headed man appeared, presumably the manager, and declared that he told me when I ordered that they could only deal with thirty customers an hour, a strange thing to say in itself, which he didn't, and the waitress confirmed in his presence that he said no such thing. He was in short down right rude. His attitude seemed to be , take it or leave it. The food is expensive, a sausage baguette cost ÂŁ6.95 and consisted of two cheap tasteless 'basic' supermarket type links of sausages . All in all an experience I will not...
