Popped in as it was open which is a rarity at the moment it seems, which to this day still baffles me, but it was early tea time, the licencee shuts early or at random times if there's noone in rather than sticking to set opening hour which I know is keeping the locals away so I've heard. Great food, decent price. About right. Menu refers to a 'salad garnish' with the salmon and rice with chilli sauce; that nearly put me off. Glad I went for it. It was delicious and the 'garnish' was actually a perfectly acceptably sized side-salad. Great ales, child-friendly, good service. My son (8) says the food is good but the pies are silly (puff pastry floating on a mass of gravy (and presumably meat) in a dish, rather than being an actual pie, so I guess he has a point!). This is a total gem of a pub, a traditional British pub, roaring fire, child and dog friendly, lovely outdoor area, clean and cared for. The staff are friendly and helpful and the landlady always finds time to talk to all her customers with a lovely smile. The food menu is not extensive but the food is wonderful. The Sunday lunches are amazing. The homemade puddings are to die for. I recommend the sticky toffee pudding when it's on. We regularly travel the 35 minute journey to have Sunday lunch here.
