My first visit to this pub and it was nice, not amazing but very nice. Staff were fabulous and we were very well looked after. The ambiance was also ‘nice’ but we were seated near a busy walkway so it wasn’t very relaxing. Food could have been a little better. For starters I had the breaded prawns and chilli dipping sauce. To be honest it looked like it was 6 small Iceland frozen breaded prawns and for £7.50 I felt it poor value for money. My husband and son had the chorizo scotch eggs which they said were lovely but they were small and came cut in half rolling about on a large half empty oval plate with a tiny bit of greenery on one side. I had the nut roast for my roast lunch, I was promised the nut roast was excellent….it was just ok, a lot of veg/stuffing and very few nuts. The veggie selection that came with it however was superb and possibly the best roast potatoes ever 🌟 My son and husband had the ham egg and chips which they enjoyed. Desserts were ok. Two of us had the Eaton mess but it’s made with shop bought hard cooked meringue which isn’t as nice as a bit of good old gooey chewy meringue. It was really tasty if not my entire calories for the week. They did come up trumps though on my decaff tea as few places bother to offer this. Would I rush back, probably not but I would definitely recommend it for a nice meal and lovely service, which often is what makes a...
Read moreOne of the really good things about the Cask-Marque Ale Trail, is if you want to turn the little pump handles on your app green (C-MAT followers will know what I mean) you've got to go off piste and ski on slopes not often travelled. And in so doing, one comes across real gems by way of establishments.
Although I was only here for the beer (and to scan the certificate, which, in this case wasn't immediately available) I came across a fabulous pub.
Very Olde Worlde from the outside in a very picturesque village, it was clean and modern within. My visit was during lunch time and the viands coming forth from the galley looked scrumptious.
The head girl (Jo) was affability itself and made every effort to accommodate my requirements. The beer, obviously, was in excellent condition.
Another visit required here, and in the not too...
Read moreReally lovely pub in a beautiful village. Friendly service, nice range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks as well as a reasonable menu.
The roasts looked good so we gave them a try. It was late in the day so the Yorkshire's had seen better days but still tasted good. Fast and friendly service, well presented food, plenty of nice gravy and filling. I should say the cauliflower cheers was great, better than 90% of places; a really tasty cheese sauce and plenty of it.
In terms of Covid: there's a covered outside area for drinks only. A separate outside area with parasols for food and well spaced tables inside for food too. Had sanitiser is easily found as is the track and trace QR code.
All in all a nice lunch. I'd definitely recommend it for either food or just a quiet drink. If eating, book first and, get there early if...
