Was quite enjoying my experience at the ship Inn until we witnessed the server treat the people at the table next to us so rudely. They had wanted to order 3 soups, all the starters and a main to share - surely an expensive order for a table of 3 and good for this evening's takings - however the waitress insisted there is a policy that people cannot share mains and that they needed to order one main per person. I couldn't see this policy written anywhere on the menu or in the bar, and our table was not made aware of this. They then added two more mains to there order to which the waitress said "oh I think that will be too much for you". And the table had to change their order yet again. I cannot understand why this order would cause such an upset to the server? Or why there is this unwritten policy that they can just whip out at their discretion?? Was it because the people on this table are not white and speak a foreign language? I honestly can't think of another reason why. This put me right off my food and left a very sour taste in my mouth. The atmosphere in the restaurant was awful. Also they don't do aperol spritz and have "live laugh love" decor. Would not return or recommend. Racism is alive and well...
Read moreThe Ship Inn is run by a delightful lady called Katie. I christened her 'non-stop Katie' as she always appears to be working. She takes a real pride in the place, everything is 'ship-shape,' sorry. Ably aided by one of the friendliest, most able staff you will come across anywhere. The room was a decent size with a comfortable bed affording a really good night's sleep in this quiet location. Now for the food. We arrived on a Sunday, enjoying a 'senior's portion' of the roast. Absolutely awesome. On Monday, as they don't do food, (everyone is entitled to a day off,) we headed into Ulverston where there is a good variety of restaurants. We chose 'Aroma,' an Indian restaurant which more than compensated with excellent food. Tuesday at the Ship was 'Taco' night, not to be missed, very reasonable and very delicious. This was an innovative occasion for us but would certainly repeat the experience.|I feel sure you will not be disappointed with either a stay or a meal...
