Absolutely awful experience with a young man that called him self the manager really lovely evening attending an engagement party was in the function room it was late very tired after a 6 hour drive to attend and I was driving home that evening too I have ADHD and lost my set of car keys last attempt to go back to my car and find them joined by some family members it was bad weather we all got in the car and this man weirdly walks past the open door to knock on the driver’s side window to tell my father in law he wants all of our drinks which was strange! He snatch the drink out of my partners hand Handing plastic cups he replied we are going back inside in a minute mate he said no your not because your sat in my car park doing drugs ! no tack and so very rude we couldn’t believe it not the way to speak to people that have been drinking considering most are reactive ! Some one is definitely going to smack him one day ! If they haven’t already wouldn’t be surprised One of the passengers had opened his medical cannabis which he continued to show his prescription card but didn’t take any or smoke anything (medical cannabis has been legal in the uk since 2018) we had all spent a lot of money in the pub on food and drink this ruined the whole event as it cause lots of upset and arguments between family members people were shouting and crying the discrimination and prejudice how we were treated was really disgusting and there was just absolutely no need for it going to call and make a complaint tomorrow but I doubt I will get anywhere due to it being family owned such a shame people like him have to work with the public and make them feel like that avoiddd he could of politely said your not allowed to take glasses to the car park why we and can you take that of the premises instead of throwing wild accusations around and telling the whole party to leave ! It looks like they are just as awful at dealing with food allergies
I can’t find away to reply to there response ! You are allowed to smoke it in a government approved vape and your allowed to carry it in labeled pot. I have myself and 3 others in the car to confirm that was not what happened and it was not handled with any tact or professionalism it was only the manager that was there so he’s obviously not told them the whole truth about why he got those reactions of course we are all going to be upset that we couldn’t re join the party after spending loads of money with you and travelling so far. To end the whole evening for the couple was quite frankly disgraceful and very petty ! I’ve heard others have had previous problems with this particular member of staff also !! at the very least you should compensate the engaged couple for ruing there evening refund the lady who hired that room because you cut the time short not be arguing with disgruntled customers on reviews because you don’t like what they are saying just shows what kind of people you are !! This whole situation could have been avoided if he wasn’t rude your staffs actions caused this ! And the couple shouldn’t of had to apologise for anyone’s behaviour on there special evening at your venue because your staff had like drunk customers the fact your using that is just to make your...
Read moreNot sure how this place is still open. Terrible food at a high cost. I’d strongly advise anyone reading this to avoid going here.
We came for a family meal to celebrate my Gran’s birthday, with a table booked for 7:30pm. After ordering drinks, we were sent upstairs to find our own table. A waiter then rushed us to order because the kitchen was closing at 8:00pm. Why accept a 7:30 booking if the kitchen shuts half an hour later?
To make things worse, there’s no table service - we had to go downstairs to place an order for eight people. Food came out quickly, but unfortunately, so did the disappointment.
The Beef and Stilton Croquettes were overcooked, dry, and hard as golf balls. We’ve had the same dish at The Boathouse in Charlestown — the difference in taste and presentation was night and day. Maybe the chefs here should take a trip there for inspiration.
For mains, my partner and I ordered the Pan-Fried Duck Breast. When the waitress brought it out, she said, “I’ve got two rump steaks,” which we corrected — it was actually the duck. It’s easy to see why she got confused though — the duck was completely raw inside, so undercooked it looked like a rare steak. The meat was bland, cold, and clearly hadn’t been seasoned or cooked properly. How the kitchen missed that is beyond me.
Other family members had pies that were rock solid — when we complained, we were told “that’s how they’re supposed to be.” Someone else had the prawn linguine — just five prawns for £20. When challenged, the “manager” said that’s how it’s described. I’d describe it more as a plain pasta linguine than a prawn dish.
If you want properly cooked, well-presented food, avoid this place at all costs. Head to Charlestown or even Polkerris — you’ll get far better quality and...
Read moreAfter an enjoyable day exploring Par Sands, and the walk along the headland to Polkerris, I gave the Ship Inn a call. On the way to the parking area at the beach I had noticed a motorhome parked in their grounds, and sure enough, Kelly informed me that they were happy for me to do an overnight stay.
The parking area for motorhomes is large enough for fifteen vehicles at least, if not more, and there is an outside toilet that is open all night.
The menu could not be ignore of course, and that evening I had a lovely meal in the gardens sampling the local caught cod for dinner. The staff are a great bunch, and it’s a refreshing change to see a smiling face on my stop over’s. So many places I visit lack the congenial approach to their patrons, and the Ship Inn and their staff are the opposite end of the spectrum. But then this is Cornwall, and the ethos here is very different when welcoming a stranger.
The following morning, I ventured into Par for a haircut at Endean’s. By the time Stella had given me an estimate for my long overdue haircut, I returned the to the Ship Inn early afternoon. It was clearly too late to move on, so I booked in for a second night.
Oh, what hardship I thought, so I consoled myself with exploring the pub’s menu still further. I was glad I did, and not just for the monstrous bacon cheeseburger, the Ship Inn had a choir performing in their bandstand that evening.
I would like to thank Cathy, Mick, Kelly, Connor, and all of the other staff for such a lovely stay at the Ship Inn. If I am in Cornwall again, I will certainly come and visit you, I promise.
Best wishes
