The very last time I was in this pub, was 50 years ago. It was an enigma then and in a small way, remains just the same? Very friendly staff and locals, which in Cornwall is a rare thing.
The food portions are huge and VERY popular with the strong, local population. I didn't eat on this visit, but I'll definitely be trying their Sunday roast...it looks astonishing.
I'm not sure of the exact year, but I'm guessing 1972ish... and the village was in turmoil when a bull escaped from the local market/abattoir. I was safely ensconced in The Silver Ball, whilst the police were called to deal with the bull.
By the way...a pint of Director's real ale is an astonishing £4.20!!! Albeit the abv is now under 4.5%. And while on the subject of ales...it was a real pleasure to watch the landlord cleaning the pipes of his beers. The aforementioned Director's Ale, was absolutely pristine in taste, clarity and presentation. I wish my local pubs had someone with his skillset looking after their cellars and ales.
