Oh wow, where to go with this… stopped for breakfast before the ferry as had been told it did “great breakfasts”. That may be true, but it also does astoundingly bad service. After confirming we had 4 in our party, and ordering 3 breakfast rolls and a juice at 11.12, at 11.35 there was no sign. On querying, the slightly dazed staff member seemed firstly surprised that I’d ordered food from him not 20 mins earlier (there was only 3 other people in the restaurant) and secondly put out that I was qeurying the pace of production on a bacon sandwich. After shuffling off and checking he confirmed they were coming, and indeed they were - 2 of them anyway - another 20 mins later. What did arrive was very much “to a price” shall we say. The whole place seems a bit hit and miss - a metaphor than can be extended to the car park that is very tight and we saw several near misses in an hour. It’s ok if you need to kill an hour, otherwise avoid.

Situated next to the water in the very pretty Wootton Bridge, the Sloop Inn is very conveniently located about five minutes away from the Fishbourne ferry terminal. However, even if you are not killing time before your crossing, you should definitely pay a visit. Boasting a varied food menu of pub favourites, this family friendly venue also boasts freshly made stone baked pizzas AND an incredible carvery, all at great value for money! The carvery in particular is highly recommended as this is more like a proper home cooked roast as opposed to the mass produced blandness of a Toby Carvery. Compliments to the chef for nailing the roast spuds! With a great team of staff looking after you and providing a friendly atmosphere, this venue is definitely worth seeking out when on the Island. Next time, I'll try and leave room for one of their amazing looking desserts!

Poor at best! My family was welcomed in on Saturday evening, the restaurant was quiet. We all chose our meals but when ordering we were told half of it wasn’t available and there a 40 minute delay, ok we can rethink and wait! Omg just look at the the pictures, this was my burger meal and my daughters pasta, the other meals were no better either, basically penne pasta in tomato water and the burgers can only be described as drinks coasters, rock hard and about 5mm thick! These pictures are before we had touched the meals in case you wonder! The staff are trying there hardest it seems but the quality of the ingredients is diabolical! It’s not expensive but it’s also barely edible! Just to top it off the toilets are manky with no soap in the dispensers. Definitely won’t spend time or money there again.

Usually fairly good. Today, really poor…

Place was dirty. No meat left on the carvery except some extremely dried out chicken breast and sausages… I decided to still eat as I was hungry and had taken my granny out for dinner who I knew would still eat a veggie roast.

Chef serving did give me lots of sausages by way of making up for the lack of all other meat. There was a rather strange (very drunk I think?) customer who was in the queue before us and started poking the turkey carcass and told the sever she would still eat whatever he could get off it. She then started loading up her plate but just stood with her plate of food in the middle of the pass and was eating it with her hands. Was quite off putting and I was surprised to see that no staff confronted her regarding this.

Veg was very tasteless today and I ended up putting a lot of salt on it.

Other customers were very unhappy as they had also not been informed about the lack of meat. From the conversations I saw and heard, between customers and some of the staff, I don’t feel the attitude of the staff was very good or appropriate. Whilst I appreciate they must’ve been very busy today, and would’ve also been frustrated at the situation and customers complaining, some of the staff were almost confrontational with customers.

I would also not expect a carvery pub to have run out of carvery on a Sunday. It’s not like you can over order food for an establishment who serve carvery 7 days a week.

My partner asked for a refund and then decided a bit later to get a chicken combo instead. This was also overcooked.

In hindsight, I should’ve asked for atleast a partial refund, as the main part of the carvery (meat) wasn’t available and the food was very bland. The cauliflower cheese actually tasted like the cast iron pan it had been sat in.

I was served initially by a younger girl with fair hair and then a tall lad with dark hair- they were both very friendly and attentive.

Just a shame no one told us about the carvery as we arrived. Won’t be returning now for a long time...

A group of 7 of us came for dinner this evening with hopes for a good meal.

First of all the sign says to speak to a member of staff if you have booked….stood for a good 5 minutes and didn’t see 1 member of staff so decided just to find a seat and sit down. Eventually we found out that luckily we had sat in the right place.

We ordered our food and drink online which is simple enough. Drinks came but were a bit slow. 3 of us ordered carvery and were given a ticket to go and get it. We were greeted by a very miserable carver. He made us feel like an inconvenience for wanting a carvery and headed to the kitchen to see what other meat he had (as there was only a tiny bit if beef out). We waited for approx 10 minutes, by which time the queue had built to around 8 people. No urgency at all. He then carved the meat carelessly, the beef thick so made it hard to chew! The carvery was pretty tasteless and the gravy like water.

When we finally returned to our table, the rest of our party had their food….except 1. We asked 3 times for my son’s fish and chips and finally it was delivered by the chef who half heartedly apologised for the wait. My brother in law also paid for a dip that took ages to come and had already eaten half his pizza by the time it came. Talking of the pizza, it had barely any cheese on at all. Not sure it would qualify as a pizza. We later overheard that they had run out of cheese and were contemplating using burger cheese on the pizzas that had been ordered by another table……🤮

The chips were under cooked, fish soggy and dry (who knew that combination was possible) and a shame it wasn’t cod. Very poor quality.

Overall the food was not nice, my 90 year old grandad couldn’t eat his fish and chips and came home and had a cheese sandwich! And the staff all seemed like they didn’t want to be there.

All in all, we will not be back and I would not recommend to...

We have been several times but this time was atrocious, asked if any more meats were coming out as scruff fatty end of beef, small amount of ragged turkey and small piece of gammon. Told not yet still stuff here, I was given the fattiset small lumps of beef, my husband was given a fatty stub slice of gammon and a few lumps of the raggy turkey, then the green beans were dried out to a crisp avoided those, there was about two tablespoons of carrots, same with the cauliflower/cabbage mush and a few roasts, asked if more veg were available again told no there's still some in pots, so we ended up with a couple of roasts potatoes each a few carrots and some bits of meat, both gravy pots were nearly empty so we had a small amount each, we did not enjoy what meal we had and was definitely not worth the cost of the carvery. Our grandaughter had a pizza which was stretched to an inch of it life and looked like a rivita crispbread. The small amount of ham and pineapple was ridiculous, sadly she didn't enjoy it either. We left and went to the nearest fish n chip shop. Staff weren't very helpful as when asked we were told not my department speak to kitchen staff, which we already had done at the start and told no new meats and veg available, yet once we had our meals and were walking away another person asked about the meat and veg situation and low and behold a new beef joint etc was brought out! As stated we have eaten at the sloop regularly and had a bday dinner there but sadly we are now thinking of looking for another eating...
