The Star Inn wasn't our first pub of choice but we picked it as we past it earlier in the week. We found out it had a recent re-opening so decided to give it a visit as a group of 5.

Outside the place looks great, surprising what a fresh lick of paint will do for a place!

We arrived mid-evening on a Tuesday so were seated quickly and attended to very well by the waiting staff who were friendly but had obviously just joined the team as weren't aware of some item details, which is fine as we expected this :).

We ordered and after a short wait our starters came and I had Goat cheese bon bons which arrived on a lovely slate plate, it was delicious and the cheese wasn't too strong.

Main was a "Star Burger" in which I had the Prime Steak variant. It came with cheese, crispy deli meat and onions served in a brioche bun as well as gorgeous homecooked chips and a side salad, it went down a treat and really was tasty.

Dessert was a delicious homemade strawberry cheesecake with pouring cream and I must say it was one of the best homemade pub cheesecakes I've had in a long time.

The entire bill for 5 people came to just shy of £100 for 4 starters, 5 mains and 4 desserts with 3 pepsis, a pint of beer and gin & tonic which comes to roughly £20 per head which for the presentation and quality I think is great value.

One tiny gripe was with the background music, for the first half of our meal it was mostly typical 80s' dance music that you'd expect at a function not a restaurant clearly trying to cater to an adult dining sector. A very minor thing to note amongst what is a fantastic place to eat with friends/family.

Thoroughly...

Absolutely fantastic food, service and general appeal of the pub. The whole service, from me phoning up to book a table right to our party saying good bye, was beautiful. No hassle at all, every member of staff was chatty, happy, enthusiastic and keen to help with whatever you need and you could see this across the whole pub as everyone was generally really happy to be there.

As a party of 4, we ordered 1 dish of King Prawns and 1 dish of wild mushrooms as a starter. We also ordered 1 x pig mac, 2 x chefs whimsical choice of the day and 1 x vol - au - vent with a couple of pints of Thatchers gold. All of our meals were far above expectation, with us feeling more like we were eating at a 5 star restraunt rather than a pub!

All servers were happy to pop over and check in to make sure everything was perfect. As soon as one pint was empty, someone was ready to take the next order for us.

As a 'dog friendly pub', it was nice to see them sticking upto the claim with clean dog bowls scattered around the pub, other members of the public also bringing their dogs in and a huge open green area to the back for the dogs to run around in.

On the whole, this was a most fantastic experience for us and we look forward to visiting again in the near future!

Thank you to the team at The Star in Star, you've all done a great job. Keep up the...

Unbelievable! We have been meaning to try them for so long. So glad we finally managed to do it. Previously we booked a table with them, but driving to the wrong star inn as there are 4 in the area. So make sure to book and go to the right one. We chose this pub as there are many great walks nearby. One of which is called King Wood belonging to National Trust which 4 min drive from the pub as well as the other walks. The place is so dog friendly that they have a dog section of the pub you can sit with loads of dogs. Upon entry we were welcomed by friendly staff which brought water and treats to our dog. Service is efficient and fast. They are attentive and do not miss anything without being over bearing or intrusive. They have great selection of steaks, homemade pies, burger, fish and chips and duck. The menu ticks all the boxes. We has burger and duck. Both exceeded my expectations which are quite high. The Presentation of the food wAs also excellent with great detail to attention. The desert selection was amazing too. I couldn’t believe how smooth and amazing experience this had turned out to be for both us and the dog. We had a great day out. I think the nAmes of our servers were Jimmy and Dan. They were genuinely hospitable and liked their jobs and...

My husband and I came here for the first time during our stay in Cheddar. Although the pub itself is dated and needs modernisation, it was reassuringly quiet and calm inside compared to the busyness of the restaurants in Cheddar Gorge. The staff were very polite and welcoming. The food was lovely. My husband had the ribeye steak and it was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. I had the vegetarian burger with a gluten free bun (I have a gluten intolerance) and fries. I did enjoy my food, the chips especially, but the burger wasn't amazing. I would have liked to have had more choice in terms of gluten free and vegetarian options. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Star because the quality of the food is very good.
