Don't be fooled by the attractive exterior and magical Coate Water nearby. Please don't come here. Regret regret regret. BOTTOM LINE: Cross the road and get a gourmet sandwich from the petrol station. I came here because I saw "vegan buffalo wings" on the menu, in fact, for £7 this was 5 Quorn chicken nuggets. These and everything else was cold when it came out, I wasn't given any cutlery or offered any sauces or anything, they just dropped the food and walked off. I had to steal cutlery from a reserved table because the sauce station didn't even have any. Then no one came to do a check to ask me how I found it. After I had finished and pushed the plates away (so it was very clear I had finished) staff served other people in the garden and walked past me 6 times, (nothing in their hands) without taking the plates or even asking me how my food was or if I had finished. The soft drink tastes like it had quite a bit of cleaning fluid from the glasswash in it, aftertaste of bleach. The burger was gritty and tiny. This amazing and vast spread of a pint of soda and cordial, 5 nuggets, and a veg burger, cost £20.80. So much disappointment for such a high price too? Wonderful. Never again, unless maybe I need a coffee and the nice cafe kiosk at coate water is closed. Nice sitting area outside and quite cosy inside. Shame that the beautiful surroundings of coate water, and a pub that from the outside looks like it has so much promise, is disrespected by the experience it offers the customer.
1 extra point for the genuine and hard working bloke wearing glasses who, (although he did pass me quite a few times without taking my plates) DID make the effort to say hello and make real conversation while he was struggling to clean the 40 or so glasses and bottles from the garden without any help from the other staff, some of whom were chatting behind the...
Read moreUpon pulling in looked okay, upon entering the bar it looked okay but understaffed with one person doing check in and serving the bar. Entering our room it looks okay, but then it all starts to change. The bathroom has black mould in the tile grouting and thick limescale over the shower, but there was also brown skid marks in the bottom of the toilet. The floor throughout was also dirty. The bed was at least clean from what we could see.
Upon going down for food we went to close the windows to find one didnt even close on the handle, lucky we were able to close it by pushing the pins up from the outside. In the pub/restaurant menus are filthy and have never seen a cleaning cloth and seemed the tables rarely saw anything more than a quick brush off. Burgers clearly frozen as mushy, watery and tasteless, fries over cooked, and the steak not described at all as came in a spicy marinate with chillie oil, if it had of been described like this on the menu I would not have ordered it due to intolerances but after a long day and starving it was a case of needs must. Oh yes and the steak knife was a health and safety hazzard, it was so thin and flexible it was bending like a sheet of tin foil while just trying to cut a grilled tomato. Breakfast was a little better but the hash browns still raw in the middle and beans were cold.
Over all it was a...
Read moreWhat a disappointment. I booked for 5 + 2 children who needed high chairs. For today at 3.30pm. I explained it was 2 birthdays and asked if they had any cakes. I was told that they didn't but we could bring our own. I arrived at 3.15pm to sort out the cake before the rest of the family arrived. Only to be told they did not have our booking. Jake behind the bar tried to help asked the assistant managers who's only response was she did not take the booking. Jake quickly set a table for us, but they had run out of Sunday Roasts. We said we would just pick from the rest of the menu but they had also run out of vegetables. I ordered Salmon with salad and boiled potatoes. When my meal arrived the boiled potatoes had been put in a deep fat fryer to warm them. We finished our meal and had discussed that after the meal to bring the cake. We had to clear the table ourselves and the cake when it was brought out did not have any plates for us to use. We waited for nearly 1 hour for the ice cream and dessert to arrive before cancelling and leaving. Jake did try but clearly they do not have enough staff either in the kitchen or in...
